Just been sent a link to this story, apparently a 20 year old British girl from Blackpool tweeted that 'Barraco Barner, the president of Britain should stop getting involved in Russia'.

A reflection on the 'yoof' of today or just a one off?  I wonder.

If she was about 14, you might understand it to some extent, but at age 20 she is a poor advert for the universal franchise to put it mildly.

It's just part of the trend today to not bother learning to spell properly. Phrases like Ano.... (I know) are very common and I think it's appalling.
But point it out and you will be called a grammar fascist.

Given that someone on "The Chase" thought Edward VIII married Anne Boleyn after his abdication, I'm not surprised. Also that Angora was a country (Pointless)

To stereotype, probably representative. In reality, whilst I suspect most people's general knowledge isn't great, and probably is worse the younger you are, I doubt most people would not register that both the spelling and country he is a leader of was wrong in the tweet.

Come on, shes clearly thicker than the average.

In one tweet she managed to:

Get the name of the worlds most powerful man wrong.

Get the country hes leader of wrong.

Assumes we have a presidential system.

Does not know we are a parliamentary democracy.

Does not know who our government leader is.

Pretty impressive to show such ignorance of everyday things.

If she ever does vote (i doubt she will find the correct polling station or in fact any polling station as she will be looking for a large pole) she will upon seeing BNP assume its 'Barraco National Party' so will vote that.

That was the point I was making. Most people would know she made an error, hence she is not representative of 'yoof'.

I wish I didn't know who our government leader was  :sclerosis:

Certainly most young people can still spell perfectly fine but text speak and phonetic spelling are becoming more and more accepted as the way to spell.

Old people are never stupid...

With the best, thats a good bit of PR, though I would say the Bedford team, theres, like, you know, 13 blokes who can get together at the weekend to have a game together, which doesnt point to expansion of the game. Point, yeah go on!

Not the point. Poor spelling and grammar are more and more accepted amongst young people now and it is a personal bugbear of mine.

I don't mean that in an 'eats shoots and leaves' style either. It's pointless and annoying pulling people up over every incorrect spelling or syntax or something but how and when does it become easier to write 'Ano' rather than 'I know' or 'I am going 2 da pub' instead of 'I am going to the pub'

Are stupid old people a reflection on the 'fuddy duddies' of yesterday or a one off?

Clearly not.

But it's not just that the girl is stunningly ignorant but she is stunningly ignorant but choosing to comment on British foreign policy (or possibly American) via a global medium - something that never happened until the last decade.

One thing I dislike about things like this is the simply vile comments, abuse and threats somebody can get over this.

Stupidity like this makes me shake my head, but it would never make me abuse somebody. Its not nice really.

Well I agree with you there. It doesn't warrant abuse and I can't understand why people do. Well I can, its called being behind a keyboard.

I've no idea who barraco barner is but he'd surely be better than that fake and phony "left wing progressive" wall street and military industrial complex puppet barak Obama.

Is she any worse than your average American on foreign affairs? Could your average American name the prime minister of the UK? I've meet a lot Americans and a large percentage think that London is a country and that Muslims have taken over the UK with sharia law the law of the land.

One could argue that that is the point the reason of western governments. They have no other use. I wouldn't consider political viagra, that would seem to the reason for IDS and his success.
