Easts traveled with a few injuries yesterday and a couple of players came into the team this week.
It was a closely contested first half with east edging it 6-2 at half time.
The second half was a little bit better for us, after a mistake early which resulted in Skirlaugh going ahead 8-2, Easts rallied and came out eventual winners 16-8. Young winger Kyle Quinlan and forwards Joey Walkin and James Forscell being impressive throughout

As I had to go straight away and did not go in the clubhouse I heard that miners chairman and coach gave an accurate assessment of the game and were very complimentary of the siddal display.the same cant be said of the siddal coach who took defeat badly and for some reason did not give a speech, which is a disappointment, when you lose you have to lose with dignity and praise your opposition.very disappointing for the siddal followers who made the journey over !!!!

Leigh Miners picked up their first league win of 2014 yesterday after coming from seven points behind in the final quarter against a good Siddal side to win 24-17 on a cold afternoon at Twist Lane. In a fixture that is normally tight and goes down to the wire this one was no different and it was the visitors who opened the scoring after about ten minutes when Shaun Garrod went through a gap in the Miners defensive line to send in loose forward Nick Smith under the posts, Gareth Blackburn converting to make it 6-0. Miners hit back a few minutes later when after keeping the ball alive they found an overlap on the left for winger Jack Probert to finish off in the corner, Jonny Youds converting off the touchline to make it 6-6. Siddal retook the lead when their substitute prop Danny Keane barged his way over from close range, Blackburn surprisingly missing what looked like a simple conversion to give the score 10-6. Miners drew the scores level at 10-10 when stand off Kieran Eccleston went through a gap on the left to score, Siddal thought they had retook the lead for a third time right on half time but the final pass out wide was ruled forward and the score stayed at 10-10 going into the break much to the relief of Miners after they was far to scrappy with ball in hand and had no respect for possession in the opening forty minutes.
Siddal got themselves back in the lead early in the second half when prop Jaymes Chapman went charging over, Blackburn adding the extras to make it 16-10, Chris Brook booted over a drop goal on the hour to make it 17-10 and the way the game was going it looked like Siddal would be picking up their first win at Twist Lane in many a years but when Adam Thomason forced his way over soon after the drop goal, Youds landing the conversion to make it 17-16 the game was turned right on its head with Miners getting on a roll to score two more tries, the first coming from Scott O'Brien who pounced on Kieran Eccleston's grubber kick to score and the second coming from winger Jack Probert who scored his second of the afternoon to give Miners a 24-17 victory.
Next week Miners are away at Lock Lane.
