Pretty sure that Steve Nash and Steadman went for record fees but can't think of anyone else - believe they were something like £15,000 and £186,000?

Steve Nash, Steve Evans, Paul Newlove and Steve Dooler.

Thought Connolly went from Sts to Wigan just before Newlove for more? Newlove to Sts from Bradford was the 1st £500k transfer.

edit:

just checked Wikip and none of Nash, Newlove or Connoly are listed there

Newlove to Bradford was £245k in 1993, Connolly to Wigan was £250k........ but Hanley went from Wigan to Leeds for £250k in 1991 and Offiah from Widnes to Wigan for £400k in 1992.

Nash went to Salford for £15k in 1975, but Bill Ashurst went from Wigan to Penrith for £15k in 1973 and then Mike Stephenson from Dewsbury to Penrith for £20k the same year. Nash's transfer was probably a British record.

Fair enough LTS. He was my red herring in the selection.

I think it was about £40K, much less than he was worth at the time? We'd sold Steve Evans for £72K 3 or 4 years prior to that, which was just below the world record.

Steve Evans played in the prelim for Fev before winning the cup with Hull, therefore he transferred Jan/ Feb 82. David Hobbs March 85. We played Hunslet at home end of March 85, that was either his last game or the first without him. I think it was the first without him.

I think I might have been wrong with £72K for Steve Evans? Did we get £70K for him when the world record was in fact £72K for George Fairbairn's move from Wigan to Hull KR?
