This is the flaw with the shoulder charge rule. If a player gets run into and is not looking to make a tackle his natural reflex action to protect him is put his shoulder in the way to brace himself for the impact.

It needs looking at.

If you don't want to give a shoulder charge don't tuck your arm in and turn sideways

The Hull KR player probably had less than a second to make that decision. Sometimes, instinct takes over.

Padge it's an natural reaction to do that to brace yourself for impact. You can't penalise players for it.

If the player still had the ball what would he have done?

Can't quote Padge but he would of tackled him normally. If he had of tackled him normally he would of got penalised for tackling off the ball. What's he meant to do?

He's meant to keep his arms down, his 'split second decision' as stated elswhere would have benn the same, he went with the shoulder.

He can't have no time to pull out if he didn't have the ball, but have time if he did have the ball.

Guilty.
