What a strange decision it was to go to RU in the first place.

The game has moved on without him and from his drop into obscurity you can understand him not being happy.

Who was advising him?

What was he doing?

Certainly Tigers don't need him back.

Cronulla, St George Illawarra, Parramatta, Melbourne and Brisbane are among the NRL clubs most likely to interested in a star playmaker of Marshall's calibre and experience.

Looking at those teams mentioned in the article, I can't see the majority of them needing or wanting him.

Maybe Sharks??? Possible Storm???????? no, I don't think so, unless he comes at the right price as BR suggests.

Can`t see anybody wanting to touch him with a barge pole,he`s a good Touch Football player and that`s about it. Obviously his new missus is homesick,so a return to Sydney has almost been forced on him, though apparently he`s been told he`s down the pecking order for Auckland rah rah anyway. So he wouldn`t want to join any club outside Sydney, halving his chances of finding a new club even if any were remotely interested. No doubt the Sharks would be his ideal club as they`re full of ex Tigers players, but I hope he`s not holding his breath.

Media have approached all the NRL clubs asking the question.

Almost all have said variants on No, No Interest, Not what we need.

The only two who didn't actually say no were Storm and Sharks:

Storm

Football director Frank Ponissi: “Benji would be a great addition but there is one problem — $$.”

Sharks

CEO Steve Noyce: “We haven’t had any discussions with Benji or his management.”

Some folk seem to have had him already at Sharks but he's said no, he's still considering his options... if he has any

Maybe he wants to go to Storm!

He wants NRL at any cost to himself from what he says.

His little sojourn into RU must have cost him a fortune one way or another.

If there's three possibilities then Marshall's own talk of preferring a Sydney club obviously favours Sharks.

They and Storm could perhaps be in a position to fit him in.

Cowboys are the third who seem to have made an approach.

Who knows for a chance to play alongside Thurston he might be more flexible.

He's lucky anybody wants him.

Kneecapping the future of up coming young players in favour of an attention seeking low life like that.

would make me give serious thought about NOT renewing my membership to the club !

I already suspect that 'what looks good for the papers' to management is overruling the football department :rtfm:

I've read a rumour that Salford are interested in Marshall,...good luck to them.

If Marshall options are being exaggerated and nobody in the NRL wants to pay his wages maybe he will explore SL options. He'd probably go somewhere with more money than sense.

Here's what one media bloke (Daily Telegraph Au) David Riccio thinks aafter questioning the fitness and mind of Marshall.

It also shows how little some aussies respect Super League.

In his view, Benji Marshall should ...

Fly to the UK, pick up some easy cash playing in the English Super League for the next five months, get rugby league fit and return to Australia for the most important pre-season of his career.

Thurston & Marshall is certainly an intriguing combination. Subject to Benji showing more form than he did at the end of his time with Wests, of course.

No wonder clubs aren't racing to sign Marshall:

When he left Wests Tigers they cut short a contract with him that was due to run two more years.

As a result they get rights if he signs for another NRL team in that time:

The Tigers’ compensation options include:

  •  Taking a percentage of merchandise following Marshall’s signing;
  •  Demanding a percentage of the every ticket sold to the game where Marshall faces the Tigers;
  •  Free tickets to that match which Wests Tigers could sell.

Marshall has been quoted as saying the club where he spent a decade “doesn’t want him”.

Seems only two teams up for signing him - Dragons and Sharks.

Benji Marshall is a Dragon! It's official.
So it'll be a Widdop/Marshall pairing.
It's a two-and-a-half season contract.
He'll be hoping to put his failure in Union behind him.

What do Dragons fans think?

BENJI Marshall officially became St George Illawarra’s $1.1 million gamble on Friday night with the Dragons announcing the failed rugby union convert had signed with the club until the end of 2016.

In a $500,000 a year signing that prompted the Sharks to declared Marshall had turned his back on his mates after a failed bid to land the former Tiger, Marshall signed a deal that will see him back in rugby league for the next 31 months.

The bloke is lucky to get that sort of money. For that the Dragons will be expecting a Marshall playing to a higher standard than his latter days at Tigers.

The Sunday Telegraph (Au) - Marshall sidelined until the Tigers reach a $200,000 agreement with the Dragons with Marshall’s former club demanding a piece of St George Illawarra’s gate receipts.
