Doncaster player coach spoke to the official website in the aftermath of the 40-10 win against Rochdale Hornets.

Richard Wilkinson was awarded the man of the match performance, returning to the side with a stellar performance.

The Dons boss was full of praise for the young half-back, who picked up the man of the match.

He said: “Richard has been really good in training, he has kept his head down and as a young boy we have to look after him.

“Matty Wildie is still on loan, but he was called back to Wakefield last week, but if he wasn’t called back to Wakefield, Richard Wilkinson was going to play.

“He knows he will be in and out of the team and today he has put in another quality shift.

“Talking defensively and offensively, getting things organised on the right edge, he is certainly going to be one for the club for a long, long time in the future.

“He knows that we still have a lot of work to do as staff to get him where we want him and where he wants to get to.”

Steve Snitch also made his debut in the victory over the Hornets, coming on as a first half substitute.

Cooke believes there is still more to come from Snitch and believes the signing will get better and better.

“Steve did okay, he knows he has some work to do to get up to speed,” said Cooke.

“He has worked really hard over the last fortnight in each and every session on developing his fitness.

“What he showed is he is going to be a good asset to us as a back row, a middle man or a front row.

“He will get progressively better with the more game time he gets, but it was a steady debut for him and I am sure he is glad to get it out of the way.

“I spoke to him on the way down in the car and he was quite nervous about today’s game and what he was getting himself into,

“We have looked after him, he has only done 36-38 minutes and got a 30 minute stint out of the way in the first half so we are really pleased with that.
