Ablett charged with grade C.

The Hardaker one is certainly going to be interesting.

Lee Radford rang me the other week....I knew Hull FC were a bit desperate but I had no idea it had got that bad.

You'd need to look at the RFL site to find out what they decided but he hasn't been charged with anything and he hasn't been given any warnings.  Maybe the Leeds player was playing it up to win a penalty?

Cheers, couldn't see anything on the RFL at a quick glance.

Ratchford did wrong IMHO, certainly held on too long

talking to a few local players who all thought Ratchford was lucky and certainly meant it, I was convinced he wold lose his EGP to not pick up a ban. How does each grade work with regards to possible bans.

Hmm, on another board there is a thread about the Hardaker one, with a video showing what he said (assuming our lip-reading is correct).

If all is as it seems on the clip, it should be a very serious punishment, I believe homophobic comments are treated in the same way as racist comments, as they should be.

Maybe now is really the time to clamp down on players shouting at the ref, Leeds appear to have a few players who are particularly bad at this.

Interesting to see what would happen if Hardaker is found guilty of this charge, isn't he already on a warning with Leeds.

I actually found the clip pretty shocking, no place for it in RL at all.

Watched said clip several times and Hardaker seems to be directing his comment at somebody in the Warrington team. He utters it as James Child walks from Hardaker's right across him to his left, yet Hardaker's stare doesn't waver.

I'll put the link on here as long as people are aware you can lipread swear words on it and, of course, the mods can remove it if they deem it unsuitable.

https://vine.co/v/Md0egWOePWp

Ablett also seems to utter "f*****g bul***it" directly at Child as he walks past.

Just a thought, and I'll tread as carefully as possible here. Is there a chance that Zak Hardaker uses the term "f*****g f****t" against any none gay person as a derogatory term and it's just a bit unfortunate that the referee here was James Child who, may well have an alternate lifestyle to most.

This is obviously no defence but I thought I'd put it out there as a theory.

I hope I've worded that in such a fashion that nobody's offended but, if they are then just ask me to delete it in a reply and I'll do so, unless of course the mods beat me to it.

Not surprised, you could see the pressure being applied.
The RFL pages have the grading of all offences, as I say I'm surprised

Tbh I thought Hardaker was calling a Wire player (possibly Monas) a 'f****** ladypart'.

There was absolutely nothing in the Ratchford incident.

I can confirm 30+ less sales for Scotland vs Italy at Workington, after this afternoons test purchase for the Tonga match, £7.50 is extremely reasonable, however a £2.50 'delivery' fee for a walk in purchase is beyond taking the mickey, good luck with that, it's cheaper on the telly.

What's going on? Why aren't our refs dealing with this? I'd have walked them both

It's a word used primarily as an insult to gay men, and therefore he should be punished accordingly.

I got the impression that both Ablett and Hardaker were directing their comments at Child as he walked past, and neither looked particularly pleasant while they were offering up their respective compliments.

It's for the inquiry to decide whether he is guilty as alleged but if he is found guilty then he needs to serve a ban IMO and dropped from the team for a while.  Not only would he be in breach of the Respect policy but also the Equality Act 2010 I would imagine as the rugby pitch would be considered his place of work and so anyone who is gay should be protected from abuse.  The story has already found its way on to the BBC website RL pages, since they are always keen to pick up on a negative, and so some damage has already been done.

that was the only other thing i thought, although i have no idea who he was talking to, nor do i think that is important.
It certainly doesnt look like a two syllables last word to me, but sure they will get expert advice.

Regardless of our lip reading abilities, I'm sure Child knows exactly what was said as both CA and ZH were hardly whispering the insults.  I agree with Dave that it was a one syllable word - the vowel sound was a short a, so possibly the first syllable of OF's guess.

Ablett certainly was, Hardaker I'm fairly certain wasn't.

I also agree with one or two others, Hardaker seems to be saying the shortened version of the "word".

The RFL have to stamp down on this and hard, IMO. Our image as a family friendly sport will suffer if not.

Probably a bit controversial but around my age 18-21 calling someone a fag or a f**** is not a homophobic gesture or insult at all. It's fairly common and to be honest there is not any malice behind it whatsoever. If I get called it by it will generally be by my friends or someone. People tend to call people it regardless of their sexuallity.

It's a tough one to judge IMHO opinion. I think a lot of insults shouted at people aren't actually using the meaning behind them. I can't post them on here obviously but people just use the words because they have been used as an insult previously.

I'm going to the word Hardaker used. Let's say I knocked over a pint over in the pub or something one of my mates would call me it. Do I get offended? No because it doesn't apply to me whatsoever. Obviously I'm not sure if it applies to James Child though.

It depends on James Child. If he is a known homosexual and Zak Hardaker has abused him for it then he should receive a 6 - 8 game ban as it shouldn't be tolerated. If he is known to have a girlfriend or something and it was just a general insult which many players do (in all sports) it should just be a warning IMO.

It's a very in depth subject which honestly you can debate for hours with. It's gonna be tough for the RFL IMHO.

Edit: mods of you want to remove anything I put then fair enough, I know it can be quite a sensitive issue with some people.

Homophobic abuse is what it is, regardless of the target's sexual orientation. If Wayne Rooney called Stephen Gerrard a an effing poofter, it would be front-page news and rightly condemned. If Hardaker actually did say what is claimed, he should get the book thrown at him.
