England coach Steve McNamara has named a 34-man squad for the mid-season training camp at Loughborough University from June 15-17 in preparation for the 2014 Four Nations in Australia and New Zealand.

The players are drawn from eight First Utility Super League clubs and comprises the nucleus of the 2013 Rugby League World Cup squad, with the addition of players from the England Knights programme.

McNamara will fly in from his home in Sydney to lead the camp, which he feels is an important part of the national team’s bid to taste international success Down Under this autumn.

“The camp is very important for us and I’m looking forward to working with all the players as a group again,” he said.

“We have made considerable progress over the last few years by getting together at specific stages of the year and this training camp allows us to build on that progress by spending valuable time together.

“It’s been a difficult process putting this squad together because of the sheer number of players who were in contention: there is an enormous amount of talent emerging through the ranks in Super League.

“Many of the players in the squad were with us for the World Cup and there are some great additions to the group who will benefit from being in a camp that will focus everyone’s minds on what we need to do to achieve international success.

“We have widened the net for this camp and the door remains open for every player in Super League: there are a lot of games remaining between now and the end of the season and a lot of opportunities for players to put themselves in contention for selection.”

Of the 34-man squad named today, 25 players will convene at Loughborough on Sunday June 15: the nine Wigan Warriors players are unavailable following the rescheduling of the First Utility Super League Round 2 fixture against Widnes Vikings, which will be played on Wednesday June 18.

Good to see the likes of Amor, Walmsley, Joe Burgess, Clark, Whitehead and Sarginson in there.. been impressed with all of them over the last year or so.

Though it appears none of the Wigan players will actually link up with the squad.

So chuffed for Shenny, Clark and Chubbs

Now then, it's a race between Sandie....and Fairburn....and the little man is in........yeees he's in.

I, just like those Castleford supporters felt that the ball should have gone to David Plange but he put the bit betwen his teeth...and it was a try

Kevin Ward - best player I have ever seen

The real Mick Gledhill is what you see on here, a Bradford fan ........, but deep down knows that Bradford are just not good enough to challenge the likes of Leeds & St Helens.

I knew there was one or two players missing, that's them.

And Jamie Jones-Buchanan has played 4 games this season, all in March, that is the only ridiculous selection IMO. Everyone else is deservedly in there. Although I would've like to also have seen Mason Caton-Brown included.

If you use "should of", "would of" or "could of", you are a moron.

You couldn't make it up. P*** up and brewery come to mind. Nine Wigan players will all miss the training camp because it clashes directly with the Widnes re-arranged fixture. This has been in the calendar for ages.

Which bright spark rubber-stamped McNamara to fly all the way back home to run a camp that will be decimated? :sclerosis: The only week in the whole year which has a mid-week fixture.

Maybe the training camp has been in the calendar longer?  This will have been negotiated with all the clubs, including McNamara's down under, so I would imagine it will have been in place since before the season started.

Can someone please justify to me Marc Sneyd not being picked?

Jamie Jones Buchanan aswell? He's been exposed playing for Leeds many a time over the last couple of seasons for shocking defencive reads.

He's got most of the players right though.

It's concerning Sneyd has been left out. I appreciate he is going to continue to play Sinfield till the day he retired voluntarily but there is no way he is going to make it to the 2017 RLWC. We have 2 half backs who are consistently good I'm every aspects of the game in Widdop and Sneyd with a few slightly behind them in Smith, Myler, Mellor ect and should be looking to start building partnerships with them.

Having a partnership at 6 and 7 who have played together regularly for 3 years could give us an advantage in the 2017 RLWC. Cronk and Thurston will be 33 and 34 by then so we will be much worse. DCE didn't look ready to fully replace them based on origin. We might actually have a better partnership in the halves if we work on it now. If we leave Sinfield playing till 2015/16 we will have to scramble a partnership together which will affect the team massively in 2017.

We need to start building now.

If it has been in the calendar longer then that is even worse! As a governing body you would say to all clubs 'we have this important training camp on this date and no clubs must plan in fixtures during this period'. How difficult is that?

Kev Brown is in great form and no mention of him.
Good squad though, pity about the coach!

Sydney Roosters have a bye that week.  McNamara is the assistant coach there.  I would imagine that week was the only one he was allowed a break from his day job to come over here.  I would also imagine Wigan and Widnes will have known from the outset when Roosters had a bye (since it would have been timetabled in) so who is to say where the responsibility for the scheduling lies?

Ablett justifies being in a 34 man squad IMO. The other 2 shouldn't be anywhere near.
