Doncaster chief executive Carl Hall spoke to the official website to give a round up of the injuries.

The Dons have struggled throughout the season with numerous injuries and Paul Cooke has had to rely heavily on the dual registration system with Hull FC for cover.

However Hall had some good news on some players who are not far from a return to fitness.

“We are starting to get a few troops back, we are not doing too bad.

“Liam Cunningham is not far from a return, maybe a week or so, Micheal Butterfield was also close, but he seemed to hurt his ankle again in training so he could now be a couple of weeks.

“We have had some good news with Danny Nicklas, we thought he would be quite long term, but he may only be a week or two away now.”

There was bad news however for Mark Castle and Mike Kelly who have suffered further set backs.

“Mark Castle has aggravated his back again after being out for a month, it was a tough one for him, we need to book him in and get a scan done to see what damage he has done because it keeps locking up on him.

“Mike Kelly played against Leigh, but he had to play more minutes than we thought he would have too, due to the injury to Lee Waterman.  He pulled up, which was a massive shame because he was having a stormer.”

Hall also spoke about Brett Waller, who suffered knee ligament damage in pre-season.

“The only long term injury is Brett Waller at the moment who is out for the season, but he is back into his rehab and doing well, we are all proud of the big lad.”
