The government say that along with E, S and W, it is a constituent country. I'm not sure who is better qualified to determine its status than they are.

Anybody who knows owt

Seems to be quite a selective list tbf.

I lived in N Ireland and wouldn't say it is more sporty than England.

They gave Northern Ireland the same status as Scotland and Wales and actually more than England so it's a real thing rather than just someone's opinion.

All places are "made up".

They = the UK government both the current one and all previous ones going back to 1922.

You are welcome to an opinion like everybody else but you don't have any legislative power that I know of.

They do seem to think that walking is the greatest form of exercise.

Petrol bomb throwing doesn't seem to have made the commonwealth games. Shame.

Yes and no. He wasn't born in Yorkshire but his family were from Yorkshire and he has spent much of his life living in Yorkshire.

He wasn't born in Yorkshire? How sensible of him!

The OP has one huge omission - Joey Dunlop!

Quite so. Did Joeys Bar last year then 12 bikers from Lincs did the NW200 route and now hold the lap record.....for doing it in a transit minibus.

Some of us weren't that fortunate. However, we can chose to associate with England's greatest region.

Yes Clones Cyclone...very observant. McGuigan's identity was the north, old man from Belfast, fought most of his fights in the Kings Hall, Belfast, "Danny Boy" was his ring song...and spoke of how he brought two communities together during the troubles.

According to Clare Balding's "Sport and the British" McGuigan, married to a Northern Protestant, lived in a house on the border, with two addresses, one in NI the other in the Republic, got his gas from the Republic and his water from NI.   I used to deal with a similar guy, it was cheaper for him to buy in sterling, and the invoices went to an address just the Northern side of the border, but the goods went to an address just in the Republic.
