Salford Red Devils owner Marwan Koukash believes Iestyn Harris should be commended for the way he has turned around the club since arriving as head coach – believing his decision to appoint the former Wigan assistant has now proven to be the right call.

Harris arrived at the AJ Bell Stadium in April after the Devils parted company with former boss Brian Noble. And, after a slow start, the Red Devils are still in the hunt for a top eight spot, with this weekend’s game against Wakefield taking on huge significance as the games run out for Salford to climb into the eight.

And Koukash told the Manchester Evening News that the club haven’t yet given up on the top eight, and urged fans to head across the Pennines on Sunday for what is a hugely important game – as well as praising Harris.

Koukash said: “Iestyn is doing very well. He is a very talented young English coach with great passion.

“He joined us from a top set-up at Wigan and said straight away he needed five or six weeks to sort things out and to have the players buying into his ideas.

“A few people were possibly somewhat surprised when I decided to bring in Iestyn but his hunger and determination instantly impressed me.

“He has turned things around for us in a relatively short period of time. For this, he is to be commended because things needed to change.

“I am urging our fans to do everything they can to be at Wakefield because good support could get us over the line. We plan to finish the season strongly and have definitely not given up on making the play-offs.”

OOps......7 days later he pulls the plug on the player of the year award as a dummy spit reaction to the loss to Wakefield :tease:

The mans entertaining, that's for sure, but he surely has to reel himself in from time to time.....
