Pita Godinet: Ruthless Wildcats were ‘impressive’

Recommended Posts

Wakefield half-back Pita Godinet believes his side’s ruthless nature was to thank for the Wildcats’ impressive 42-6 win over Salford Red Devils yesterday.

The New Zealand-born playmaker returned at stand-off after being sidelined with a knee injury sustained in the win over Leeds Rhinos at the start of July and was one of a team of impressive performers in the dominant victory.

He marked his comeback with a second half try following Paul McShane’s grubber kick through as Trinity showed no mercy against a Devils side who were never really in the game.

“We like to put it on for the fans here at Wakefield,” he said.

“We could have gone either way – we could have eased off or put our foot on the throat, which we did in the last 20 minutes and blew them off the park.

“Everyone played their part and played their role out there today. Obviously you get a score like that if everyone plays their part. There were certain patches we need to fix on but we were always in the running for winning that game.

“We needed to play our game plan and drown them in their own area then hopefully they’d cough up a bit of ball. They did and struggled to get out of their half a bit. Big up to Timmy, I pretty much played off him. He was the dominant calls and I was just running off it.

“It was a pleasure to be back on the field. I’ve been itching to get back on as soon as possible and to come up with the result like that I’m pretty happy with how we performed.”
