The book is a collection of essays drawn from a wide variety of leading writers and personalities from within the sport. Contributors include:

- Brian Noble

- Jon Wilkin
- Dave Hadfield

On the day there will be presentations, a reading from the book, and an opportunity to meet those who have contributed. There will also be a chance to see the wonderful new archive facilities at Heritage Quay, Huddersfield, which will one day house a permanent Rugby League heritage exhibition.

Members of Rugby League Cares will also be able to take advantage of a special discount when purchasing the book on the day of the event.

This event is open to all, and is completely free, if you are interested, please email katharine.irwin@rlcares.org.uk

Will there be a Kindle edition? Either way, I'll probably be buying this.

No news on a kindle edition just yet. Will we see you tomorrow?

I won't be there, but have a good time with the launch.

Talking of things XIII, I was chucking out a load of old catalogues, newspapers and magazines about half an hour ago and found my copy of XIII Winters in the middle of the pile. Needless to say, the recyclers won't be getting that!

BTW, although I will, as I said, be buying this, can you list the subjects and authors on here? It might sway some undecided punters.

I recommend chapter seven. :-D

Hope anyone who bought it enjoys the book.

Victoria - please check your PMs. I've sent a message about a Widnes heritage project.

I tried to send it via your RL Cares email address but it's been bounced back twice.

I've got as far as the Douglas Clark chapter, and the excerpts from his WWI diaries are pretty powerful.

He was pretty powerful himself - working for his coal merchant dad, he was carrying a hundredweight bag of coal under each arm at the age of 14.  :O

Just finished chapter 7. Loved it. What a remarkable person Kay was!

She was indeed! I'm pleased to say that Hull KR have agreed to put a memorial to her up at Craven Park. The cemetery is across the road from the ground, so it will overlook her unmarked grave, so to speak.

I'm glad you enjoyed it. :-)

If there's any plan to crowdfund a proper gravestone, I'm in for a few quid.

No, but only because she doesn't have a permanent lease on her plot, so in 20 years it would be removed and given over to whomever's coffin goes on top of hers. Legally it would also be a nightmare. A memorial at CP will last as long as her beloved Hull KR and move with the club should they ever have to go elsewhere, so has more permanence.

But thanks for offering to donate. :-)

Okay, I haven't had much reading time in the last week or so, but I have now finished this, and it is a fine addition to the 'XIII' canon.

Buy it.

It also inspired (see what I did there?) me to buy Cec Thompson's book. Second-hand, stamped with 'Islington Libraries', of all places.

I'm reading this book at present.  Dipping in, a chapter here and a chapter there.  I'm really enjoying, though haven't got to Chapter 7 yet!

My local bookshop Wardleworths in St Helens was buying in a few copies to sell to those of us who have rejected looking at yet more screens and prefer to stick with old fashioned paper.

I still enjoy a paper book, but only have so much shelf space. The 350 books on my Kindle would necessitate desperate measures if I owned them in print form.
