Just had to move Jorge Taufua out of my team as he's injured.

This is my first go on Super Coach. What's the best approach.

- Fill your 1 to 13 with high priced players and have rookies on the bench?

- Fill the spots with mid priced players?

No the second.

You really have to pick a quality spine of your team. Here's where THE top price players come in.

The best forwards on balance tended to be the most reliable high scorers as they are generally in the action and scoring. Good money needs to be spent here

Centres and wingers are more in and out according to how the chances break.

You then hope to spend whatever you have left with more affordable players you know or like.

Very important too is the knack of spotting ace rookies who are rock bottom price or cheap but who have shown that they have great promise and who their coaches have lined up for regular team places.

Spot an up and coming star early on and you can score well for little money and also build up the value of your team so you can trade up somewhere.

So you need I to 13 as strong as you can but there's still a need to fill the other spots. You need at least five players on the bench who will play too.

Have in mind who you want your captain to be. He's very important as his score is doubled.

Among your most expensive players are the people in your team you ought to be able to turn to for very high scores that are then doubled.

Now's the time to try plenty of line ups. Have a go and be prepared to empty your squad and start again.

When you get a line up that seems promising then tinker with it. Make a note of what you think works well in case you forget as you go along.

The time for action then is when the line-ups for Round 1 are announced a few days before the big kick off.

By the way you can change players in games that haven't kicked off during the round, for example if you hear that one of your chosen players has come down with a cold, had a breavemant or has broken down in training and won't actually be playing.

Then it's a matter of persevering and not being put off.

And ... the same team exactly can score really well one week so you think you've cracked it then the next week they only produce an average total!

Well there's a few thoughts.

Anybody change or add to those starters?

This league is building up well.

So far we've a great blend of returnees and new blood which gives us the prospect of an exciting and competitive season ahead.

Our last few places then are available with just a week or so to go before the big kick off.

There's still plenty of time to get signed up and try out a few possible set ups.

Here's our league line up as of now:

A big welcome then this morning/evening to Ben and his Rag Puddings RLFC

... and also a belated welcome to Barrie and his Waterhead Warriors

My advice is dont go and get too many players that are likely to play State of Origin. Also I would look to have a good 5 or 6 players that are likely to get game time apart from your 13. Its likely a number of your players who you will pick will miss games and as such you need to be careful on how you use your trades.

Thanks for all the advice.

I had not taken into account the origin period, it's back to the drawing board with my team. :O

Welcome The Big Gun

Once the team lists for the Round 1 games are released at the beginning of this week make sure you've got a full team of actual players in the round on the field - 13 and four replacements (these four need highlighting in purple on the right hand side column) as your chosen replacements and then at least a couple more who'll play for insurance.

With just under two days to the season kick off we're up to 15 teams here by choice.

If you do want to join in this comp with us then do join asap, there's only another five places up for grabs.

At the start of the season the few remaining places are likely to be filled up by 'the system'.

Everyone is welcome. Good to have so many here by choice.

Welcome Anley Sea Eagles (Southstander13)

Picking a decent squad is the starting point.

Handling the representative  occasions of the year and minimising  the damage is an important element.

Being limited to 40 trades is another challenge. Eeking them out over the season is a discipline worth adhering to.

Here's our league so far on the day of the big kick off to the 2015 NRL season.

More entrants are welcome. I'm suspecting that the remaining three places will be filled by 'the system' after Round 1.

So if you have been hanging on before joining take the plunge now before before these last three places are taken.

Good luck everyone!

Well am I right in thinking that was a T O U G H first round to get us underway with?

What do you reckon?

I seem to think that a fair number of big named players failed to deliver the points we paid heavily for!

If you have any advice to share with others or just general comments please contribute to this thread. It will run throughout the season and could be very helpful.

I would tend to say don't panic first of all. Of course if you really struggled you need to develop a strategy to put things right that spans a few weeks and hope in the meantime that the R1 under-performers improve.

Those 40 trades are one of your most valuable assets that have to last right up to the end of R26 with rep games to take into account along the way.

Welcome to the three teams who have been added to make the league complete.

That's a big hello to

  • David and your Bear Chested team
  • Jamie and your Royal's team
  • Mark and your Storm Troopers

So now all twenty places are full and we are well and truly up and running ... or is that limping slightly?   :shout:

That's great Farmduck. Nice to have them here where they are quick to hand

P l e n t y to mull over there! Hope nobody has had their early season team devastated by that list!

Taufua and Friend don't really get the bubble gum bubble. It's just how that combination of letters and punctuation turns out to be code for a smiley it seems!
