After beating Oldham to gain promotion I watched Featherstone and Batley warm up. I thought the following season would be a nightmare.well we beat both of those teams and played some great rugby and bad ( Keighley away ) .but this season coming things seem to be looking good, for those that agree Hornets are 7- 1 to win it . Anyone know the admission price tomorrow ?

I didnt travel accross yesterday, but sounded like a good work out.

Dale / Hornets lost Oli Makin the head groundsman late last year who did a fantastic job on the pitch, but to be fair its been a rough winter.

On paper we've got a stronger squad than in the previous 2 or 3 years (we have all said this before im sure) Tol and the club have worked really hard in getting in some cracking new signings. I just hope the things that have let us down in previous seasons have been worked on in pre-season and ironed out:

Away form:

Other than 1 or 2 exceptions it has been pretty poor over the last couple of seasons, in such a competitive division away points will really make the difference, we've got a set of back to back on the road games again this season, its nothing new we all know about it, and cant use it as an excuse. We know its tough but get the mind set and attitude right and we will be ok.

Defence:

Stop the switching off, or slow start elements that has plauged us, a winning team is built on strong and megre defence, we will score tries without doubt but need that solid platform to build on.

Im really looking forward to the season, we have the core of an experienced and established squad and coaching team with a mix of a couple of really good signings its a tough division for sure with plenty of teams fancying there chances. All things being equal we are in with a real shout, hopefully our results will do the talking now.

Good luck to the squad, Tal and all the coaching staff...... Come on Hornets!

Bookies must be taking notice (how stupid is that) of Barrow's pre season form, when they have won all four friendlies they've played. Pre season friendlies are only useful for improving players' match fitness and nothing else. As an example, about 3 years ago, we at Oldham beat Championship Whitehaven 50.0 in a pre season friendly and didn't even make the end of season play offs in a terrible season.
