Keighley Cougars v Newcastle Thunder Preview by Joshua Chapman (@JRCSport)

After recording a first victory against the All Golds last Saturday, the Cougars bring pre-season to a close this Sunday at home to the Newcastle Thunder.

Player-Coach Paul March will name his strongest possible seventeen for the game in preparation for the League One cup tie against East Leeds the following weekend.

Speaking last weekend, March said of the selection: “It’s our last run out before we go into competitive fixtures so I’ll be choosing the strongest seventeen, eighteen available in order to get the lads going before the League Cup campaign begins.”

One player March will have to do without however is Ross Peltier with the big man undergoing an operation on Thursday which rules him out for a minimum of twelve weeks.

March will also have Paul Handforth at his disposal despite the on field captain’s red card in the highly charged Gloucestershire friendly.

Stanley Gene’s Newcastle side are having their first run out in a fortnight since they thrashed the Gateshead Storm 74-6 at Kingston Park.

Thunder will also be naming a strong side ahead of their League Cup tie a week on Saturday away at League One rivals Oxford.

This means the likes of Papua New Guinea trio Mark Mexico, Charlie Wabo and Jason Tali will be getting run outs alongside star players such as Jordan Meads and Matty Beharrell.
