Could have played anyone, it would have been a low crowd. The team haven't been performing to the standard they are capable of. Fans have had enough of it. Has been happening a few times now over the last few seasons.

Like for like wouldn't be Hull vs Widnes. It would be Hull vs anyone after a run of poor performances, which you will likely see are around the 9k mark (unless against a side with a large travelling support).

Was happening before, will happen again.

This game is not a relegation battle.

Yes it was, that is the whole point of "Every Game Counts", or did it not count and we have been sold a pup.

Every game counts does not mean every game is a relegation battle. These two sides are still very much battling for top eight.

Ok, its a battle to get in the eight, didn't pull them in, so not much of an every game counts battle to get in the eight then. Seems the supporters didn't think it counted for much.

The supporters are p*ssed off at the club for continuing to promote mediocrity. Their non-attendance is very much down to that. Look on the FC forum from previous weeks. Regardless of the system, this would happen.

This game does matter. As does the next. Some fans at the club feel that every game they don't attend will show the owner they've had enough of the ###### served up. Their non-attendance at the game matters. Is there a system that would stop that?

But this cannot be so, this new structure means the days of the p!$$ed off fan have been banished forever, every game counts and therefore everyone turns up.

The aggregates for the Championship for games that are comparable (the two clubs met last year - so no ex-SL clubs or the mighty CC1 champions Hunslet)  are as follows

2014  36,060 for 24 games to date

2015  35,980 for 24 games to date

I know you lurve aggregates.

As for averages these games averaged 1,502 last year and this year they average 1,499.

I have now called Interpol to alert them to the fact we have 3 missing championship fans.

Where has anyone claimed that ever?

I get it. You don't like the new structure. But don't go making up statements.

I don't think anyone was expecting a sudden sharp increase. It's ironic that the people that use to complain about the RFL not giving this time are now using instant success as the only barometer. "Give it time if I agree with it" more like.

Yep. This proves that games between distant competitors attract more fans on a Sunday than a Friday.

This game was on a Sunday last year when Hull had won their opening home games it got 10,300

This game was on a Friday in 2013 when Hull were playing well. It got 10,500.

It seems a fair assessment to me some home fans are deciding not to bother due to poor form and that sounds much the better and normal explanation.

I think what Padge is amusingly lampooning is the disingenuous RFL idea that you have to give every game some sort of spurious "meaning" in order to create the most entertaining spectacle. In NRL the previous dud Titans just blitzed the Eels (who beat the champion Rabbitohs last week) by 22 on their home patch and they didn't need the fear of a relegation trap door or any promotional campaign mantra to do it - it's just the net result of having a strong league where all the teams have at least a few studs each and the big boys are not allowed to pull away in some free market snoozeathon.

SL needs a simplicity of design, not all of this convoluted overthinking. How ironic is the whole "new era" thing anyway? It's the polar opposite of the 1995 model, which would have been a genuinely new era and - with hindsight - the greatest thing that could have ever have happened to the sport in Europe.

You need to give it time. Licensing got six years:-

2009 Superleague average 8730

2014 Superleague average 8041

The end of licensing was announced in 2013 and that's when I walked away so it's disingenuous RFL spin doctor thinking to use 2014's attendance figures against licensing.

Gimme 2009-2012 and we can talk.

You walking away will only have affected crowds by one less.

Suffice to say that new idea of licensing saw crowds in 2009 at 8,730.

The following year 2010 the crowds were 8,730.

Had you walked away then the crowds would have been 8,729

I can live with that. So nothing to do with the structure of the league?

Dunno.

Maybe the new structure attracted 2,000 new fans, but the poor performances put off 3,000 established Hull fans?

So maybe the new structure is a hit??

Why not Live with that thought?

You know you want to....

After 3 years of licencing is when I walked away , I at least had the decency to give it a few years before I decided it wasn't for me , you obviously aren't as patient
