hope they have fun ramming there heads up each others asses and getting cauliflower ears, collapsing scrums and resetting them 6 times, the halves playing 10 man rugby kicking the ball all the time never passing to outside backs with jerseys clean enough to wear next week with out a wash... getting wedgied jumping in lineouts that arent thrown in straight and a penality kick at goal taken & repeating this process over 80mins... not my cuppa tea... if youre into all that im not a sporting bigot so enjoy yourself do what you do without restriction from me and i expect the same in return

What about another take on the subject before everyone goes apeshit ?

They have no claim though because 'Rugby' is not a thing. There are two separate sports, RL and RU, both have the name 'rugby' but that's it, they have about as much in common as ice hockey and field hockey, or polo and water polo.

Do they play Aussie Rules or American Football in the UAE? If so, will they have to be run by the UAE equivalent of the FA?

The stance regarding rugby is all wrong and is being replicated around the world. Collier et al fundamentally MUST get RL Olympic accreditation. Far too long, the game has been insular and self absorbed... It's about time it grew some teeth and stood up for its family across the world.

There isn't such thing as a "sport of rugby". They are the governing body of rugby union. They have no recognition as the NGB of rugby league by any international federation, so how they can claim to be the only official governing body is laughable.

I hope the RLIF are involved and money pledged to fight this. We as a sport need to make a huge deal out of this so it doesn't keep happening. Rugby union authorities in developing nations need to become aware of this.

It is reasons like this which I just don't think being called "rugby" is worth the hassle.

Pure RU weasel-wording, this excerpt: The UAE Rugby Union Federation "does advise that it (Rugby League) is played with a little less 'fanfare' until the situation is resolved."

They do hate honest competition, don't they?

Guess which code is almost certainly willing (and able) to throw more money at this sleazy bit of sabotage?

Just don't call it rugby in UAE then. It's not their sport.

Perfect time for "UAE Leagueball" and "UAE Touch Leagueball" to strike.

We can either b*tch and moan that they have more money than us, or be proactive and with what we've got.

It is weasel-wording but our game has allowed this to happen from being impotent on the world stage and incredibly insular. It is about time this changed.

Heard the saying that starts with "Give them an inch..."?

So what are you suggesting?

Either we don't have the money to mount a legal battle and just change the name (saving our money and time)

Or...

We do have the money and we battle for the name and put up fight for probably a long time for not a lot of real gain.

Or...

We just stop playing the game in UAE because we don't have the money but don't want to change the name.

Option three shouldn't be an option.

Who said those ratbags would allow us easy solutions?

If we change the name, you can bet that won't be the end of it.

If we challenge them, we'll probably discover that the UAE RU chairman is Prince something and the UAE RL chairman is Mr something. And that's before the money factor kicks in.

If we give up here, why not everywhere?

No name change - we are Rugby League. Absolutely nothing to be ashamed of

You don't change the name just because poorly informed sporting bigots want you to. Instead you publicly explain why they have no exclusive right to the name. And advertise their inadequacy to as wide an audience as possible, their self announced larger profile comes to our aid then.
