I use this forum so have to abide by its rules and I think I'd miss it if I didn't have access to it.

But it's not what it was. There's no one moment of significant magnitude that I can recall where my enjoyment began to wane. Just a series of disappointments, last night being another example.

I guess facebook is much more appealing and the 'drop off' of forum use will continue as social media is a more desirable vehicle for exchanging views that are subject to moderation/deleting on here.

Sad but inevitable.

Right.... I'm off on the fev facebook page!

There are advantages to the forum. You've highlighted one of them.

Facebook is not perfect but it has many more advantages to it. It's open, opinions can get exchanged etc that aren't possible on here.

I use it so much more than the forum nowadays.

Call me old fashioned Robin, but I have never used Facebook, nor am I liable to do. Smacks to me of "over the garden wall" attitudes. Just a modern trend IMO.

I'd have liked chance to reply to CKN before he/she locked yet another thread. I will never join Facebook but I ain't gonna hang around to discuss safe issues such as Mom threads no disrespect guys. That just doesn't get my juices flowing but good luck.

I've chosen to stay clear of Facebook so far. I probably will still choose to avoid it.

I disagreed with quite a few of the comments made on the locked threads.

I found some of them bordering on offensive, for example the references to the ethnic population in Heavy Woollen etc. However they have the right to have those opinions and I have the right to disagree with them.

It's a forum that has rules and moderators. We either accept those rules or walk away.

The heart of the issue in my opinion is the moderation of the forum and if it's moderated correctly or poorly.

Its not a democracy,so the moderators opinion and decision is final irrespective of its fairness, accuracy or interptretation of the laws of defamation, libel etc. There lies the problem.

It's been quite an interesting journey watching the slow death of this forum. There have been some great highlights and characters(irrespective of their issues and baggage)

At its best it was informative and I have really enjoyed the views and opinions of many of the contributors.

At its worst, words fail me but I suppose that was part of the fun.

I've even enjoyed the lessons in 1960s banking principles and their relationship to land values. I still pmsl every time I drive past Farmer Copleys.

Better stop now or I might say something nice about Griff. But then again.........

yep this is my last post as these so called moderators will be making fans do lines next I.e. I must not upset the forum monitors etc childish maybe but that seems to be the way this forum is being governed so much for free speech and I have never used one swearword in fact I never use it.

I only started to post after rovers made John Bastian coach and then Any Hay neither of which sit right with me and I believe Andy will be shown the door and be on his way by the end of the season but I Really really want some success for rovers just like the good old days when they players were very proud to don the blue and white jersey.

Finally it sounds as if we might as well not bother going across to France as the coach seems to think we will lose instead of geeing up the lads stressing we will give our all and will do our utmost to win through to the next round. Remember St Helens away then Bradford at Leeds culminating in Hull at wembley in 1983 Yes thats the spirit Andy some really determined men beating the might of Humberside.

A game of rugby league starts at 0-0 so why should we not turn in a superb performance in France and win. I remember going to wembley in 1983 on a supporters bus and reading the papers, when the papers actually gave RL a few lines, and everyone stated that all Hull had to do was turn out, and we all know what happened, didnt we ?

Happy days

I only went shopping to supermarket after reading the comments up to 4.30pm, I then came back on about 9pm and all hell had let loose, unfortunately I didn't get to read some of the deleted posts so don't have a clue what was said or by whom, it's a thankless task being a moderator and if anyone out there would like to help out please feel free to pm me of Jimmy B, but be prepared to be in the firing line when things don't go the way others like!!!

Please be aware that it maybe others that are reading this forum but don't contribute that have reported the thread in the first place to the admin/moderators of the whole site and not the mods of the Fev one!

Im Fev and im proud

A fair assessment.

The law of libel and how it affects web forums is quite complex.  Put simply, if there's a libellous post and the website owner does nothing about it and can reasonably have known it was posted then they're liable as if they'd posted it themselves.  This is because the website owner is the "publisher' just as if it had been on a newspaper page.  The good folks based at TRL Towers don't have the legal slush funds that the likes of The Sun or Private Eye have and people's livelihoods are at risk if a law suit went the wrong way.

Some of the deleted posts were just disgraceful and were so clearly libellous that there was absolutely no defence at all.  The players and clubs involved probably would have taken action on some of them and I'd be very surprised if the owners of TRL didn't get the bad side of some meetings without coffee with the RFL highheidyins.  I simply do not get where some people think that they were acceptable.

So, I've a thicker skin than most given I've been moderating this site for a good bit over a decade but I've also got a very light trigger on deleting libellous posts.  I'm not going to change that attitude.

From what I can gather, SR, is facebook moderated at all?.

I don't know Saddleworth, I hear not.

It's pretty irrelevant to me having never fallen foul of moderators on a personal level. I think.

Although I may disagree with some of the moderation I think most of my posts are pretty much down the middle.

As most of my friends will testify I'm a very calm, unassuming, sober individual.

Now getting my daughter to teach me how to use Facebook (against her will) contrary to my post above.

Andy,

If you want meaningful debate you need to get on the General Rugby League Forum. Trouble is it's no good if you've got a job or outside interests because by the time you get back to it the thread has moved on a couple of pages. It's good locking horns with the expansionists, pro merger and pro Super League brigade though, but you need to sit by the computer all day......No good if you've got a life!

No system is perfect. You just have to pick the one you like and abide by the rules. I still have 'no points' next to my name. Somebody who doesn't like me put in a report about one of my opinions. If you grouse too much then they have won. Just get on with life and enjoy it. Believe me it goes very quickly and then these small incidentals are of no consequence.
