MikeFletchersBarmyArmy
Whenever we win in Cumbria they always stick in your memory, a great win today which is a very big win towards safety. We were the better team today, just another off day with the boot for brown that made it a lot closer. However we hung on in the end, which I thought we were going to blow at the end, A man down on the back foot 19-16 up & Houston knocks on the 20 metre line, but this time we kept them out! Which made the trip back a lot more enjoyable
The King Of Leon
A great display, fantastic team spirit to hang on in the last 10 mins when all looked lost when we were down to 12 men. Browny may have had an off day with his conversions but boy his kicking on the 6th tackle drove Worky back time after time and a fantastic 40/20 in the 2nd half resulted in Jack Lee putting Keinhorst in for a try. Lee had his best game today and scored in the 1st half and him and Browny controlled midfield with Keino scoring outwide twice. Everyone tackled their hearts out today and when the Worky winger caught a high ball and set off with a clear field in front Ritchie Barnett chased from the other side of the field giving him 30 yds start and alongwith Jimmy Watson caught the Worky winger yards from the line which showed the commitment in this team.Barnett nearly scored the try of the season in the 1st half when a brilliant break down the touchline ended with him rounding the full bk only to be ankle tapped yards from the line, he always takes the ball up 1st man and along with Duckworth are like 2 extra forwards gaining valuable yards. All in all a great day, not an easy place to win.One other thing Hunslet dropped a goal today and ive been watching them well over50 years and it was the longest drop goal ive ever seen us kick ! Hawkwindbag
Well that was a lot closer than it really should have been! All the great work in the first half, and a 19-6 lead after 50 minutes, nearly went in the bin over the course of the next 20 when we suddenly started knocking on, going off-piste and giving penalties away, and with ten to go we were clinging on to a three-point lead and playing with 12 men. Fortunately we managed to rediscover some steel again and did a good job of containing Workington in their own half throughout the closing stages. The second half seemed to go on a hell of a long time though!! Think we did enough overall to take the points though, Keinhorst, Haley and Watson were Hunslet's best today, with Lee doing a good stint at hooker. Like the look of the table this morning, with four below us and a four-point cushion to the relegation zone. Would have taken that at this stage, at the start of the season!! Blackpool Hawk
Superb win, congratulations to Baz and the boys! The league table makes pleasant reading this morning. If we could pick up one win in our next two games (London Home & Dewsbury Away) that would be a major bonus before Leigh away. The Summer Bash game at Blackpool against Doncaster looks massive now, if we can beat them id say theres only one relegation place we could potentially be dragged into. Saying that i think we have a better squad than both Whitehaven and Workington so we should be aiming to finish as high as possible. Keith T
It was a very good performance from the Hunslet lads yesterday and as I have stated on our forum they looked yards faster in thought and deed than our team. Your half-back showed us just how to use the wind to your own advantage and even in the second half when we had the wind in our favour we failed to copy what you had done and we continued trying to batter our way through the middle time after time. We didn't play well at all but that is not to take anything away from Hunslet who were by far the better team and thoroughly deserved their win. It would have been an injustice if we had sneaked the win at the end. My only quibble would be that I thought Watson should have had a red card rather than a yellow. Not only was he late but he also went in to the Town player with his knees after 2 others had tackled him. I remember when ............................."It is impossible not to feel a twinge of sympathy for Workington Town, the fall guys this season for the Super League's determination to retain it's European dimension, in the shape of Paris. While the French have had every assistance to survive, the importance of having a flagship in a heartland area like West Cumbria has been conveniently forgotten." - Dave Hadfield - Independent 25th August 1996. FRISKY FILLY
I think the last time we won there was when GRAEME HALLAS was coach. Can anyone tell me the Hunslet 17 on Sunday as its not shown on the website
Hawkwindbag
Amazing how the memory plays tricks ... the last time we won there was 2010 on our way to the Championship 1 Title, 30-16. We also won there in 2009 (24-16), and 2008 (23-20) Sunday's team was Watson: Duckworth, Briscoe, Maun, Barnett: Kain, Brown: Haley, Lee, Yates, Martin, Keinhorst, Mackay: Subs Houston, Lyons, Mvududu, Walters. Hunslet Miner
Great win @ Workington. One of those kind of wins that your heart says yes but your head says pretty unlikely. Just been looking @ the Workington forum. These lads are really passionate about their club. Good to see so many of them posting comments both before our game and even more after it. Trying not to get too carried away, but given that Dewsbury beat London on their own turf, is it too much to expect that we could beat London on Sunday on our pitch?
