Will cordwell
I may be spoilt when I say this but having watched the Auckland nines for the last decade where all the supporters embrace the event I e come for the day to make it a carnival atmosphere all we got really was the 2 sets of supporters for each game plus a hand full of neutrals we couldn't asked for better weather so is it a yah or nah from you . Also not been to black pool for about 25 years but my word it's gone down hill seems they have spent all the money on the front which looks great by the way but behind the promenade what a hovel by the way it's a no from me good try the rugby league but don't think it worked

fredm
Personally agree with Jimmy Lowes. What exactly is the point of holding such an event in Blackpool? What are the RFL hoping to achieve? I can see the point of next weekend in Newcastle to a degree, with the Newcastle club promoting their match in conjunction with the SL matches and hopefully converting local patrons and businesses to support them but what was the point last year when it was held in Manchester? Would be interesting to see a full financial breakdown regarding the income generated (tickets sales, sponsorship, contribution from Blackpool Council etc.) and expenditure (promotion, advertising, hire of ground etc.) and what the financial benefit to each club is. Not holding my breath on this though.
coolie
Ok let's find some alternatives Looking for places outside the heartland that could attract interest.. Tough one that, does it have to be at the seaside?? Few places around have grounds capable of holding the event So open to suggestions There's grimsby/cleethorpes Middlesbrough ,Sunderland Down the west coast there's only blackpool,Liverpool An idea for me would be the ricoh arena at Coventry..it would give a new team a chance to sell the game to the public similar to what Newcastle will do this weekend, the ground is easily reached with good roads in and out with M6 & M1 close by Its a new location to try Oh and also home to the raa raa club wasps Yeah I know it's not exactly ideal for a pizz up weekend by the sea but what does the weekend after off to attract support Discuss
Gary Coyle
Why ##### bother, theres simply ZERO interest outside the M62 corridor, never has been and never will, 35-40,000 at Maine Rs for the Magic weekend and 5,000 at Blackpool, laughable.
Crown Flatter
Yes to the concept, yes to Blackpool (shame the resort is so run-down) and yes to having the crowd opposite the cameras. We need to give the event time to "bed in", but it adjustments are needed. Legs, Dews, Legs.
coolie
So how about this Sign up boarding houses thru some kind of incentive saying we'll sell out your digs if the price is discounted and have cheap weekend tickets for £10 to pack it out Free buses supplied by the RFL one for each team To make something a success first you have to put something in
Blind side johnny
SoO was ###### for the first three years and many popular pundits said it should be scrapped before it had a chance. Wonder how many of them are saying that today? Sport, amongst other things, is a dream-world offering escape from harsh reality and the disturbing prospect of change. coolie
The bash has a future just gotta give it chance and build on the event Don't think it's fair to slaughter it after one weekend Changes I'd have made is super league ref's for the concluding game on each day And the fixtures changed to Bradford vs leigh Featherstone vs halifax Insuring the finale was packed out Did disappoint me seeing countless empty seats amd must have been disheartening to.the organisers
buford t justice
Yes to the concept, yes to Blackpool (shame the resort is so run-down) and yes to having the crowd opposite the cameras. We need to give the event time to "bed in", but it adjustments are needed. Agree completely. Maybe staging it somewhere smaller next year would benefit it too, as there wasnt much atmosphere, and Blackpool itself is that rough it makes round here look like Monte Carlo. Also to make it more interesting, id like to see the fixtures decided on league standings at the time, 1st v 2nd, 3rd v 4th etc. What we're dealing with here is a complete lack of respect for the law
Gary Coyle
Must admit i'm not into any of these type of things incl Magic weekend, i did really used to love the old Premiership finals at Old Trafford though, we used to go as a whole family, me, t'ther half, in laws, brother in law etc, etc. Blackpool is a dump and i would suggest a load of "fans"only go for a weekend booze up and the Rugby is secondary, especiallyif its not "your game"
coolie
Should be called "buffet rugby" You roll in when it's nearly time for your main course and leave after you've had your fill This will happen next week too in Newcastle The biggest puzzle is why the last game is wakefield vs Castleford Surely the ground will empty after the saints vs Warrington game A odd decision if honest

Will cordwell
This project was suck em and see ,but if it's to flourish things have to be tweaked I don't think black pool is the correct venue too many side shows for you to not want to go to the game ,what about the old club trip route were everyone gets on the coach and off we go with a little help from the rugby league say 6 coaches the rl pays for 3 etc I think there is mileage in it but you need to get people to buy into it how many tickets did batley sell anyone know
phildog
Give it a go for heaven's sake! When you've got the coach of one of the league's top teams peeing on it before it's caught fire gives the whole shebang a bad start. Just imagine, one little stone age man makes the first wheel and everybody says 'nah, it'll never catch on pal'. Would agree that Blackpool is a god forsaken hole at the moment, but it was always a good day at the NRC finals day and the RFL can't be blamed for trying to tap into it, although the link wouldn't have been broken in the beginning if they hadn't knocked that on the head. This was their attempt to say sorry and give us outside SL a bit of something. By all means look elsewhere for next season, yes with a smaller stadium to bring the crowd into play, yes somewhere out of the game's heartland but don't throw the towel in after the first round. Lone Drinker
- It should be played at Whitby or Bridlington with the option for Sheffield to play wherever suits them best depending on their opposition. - Bradford and Leigh should be given extra funds in the preceding weeks by the RFL to ensure there's no chance of either getting beat. - Batley should be allocated the worst referee. - Mark Aston to be the video ref.
