Dewsbury Rams Reserves 58-12 Keighley Cougars Reserves Report by Joshua Chapman (@JRCSport)

The Cougars reserves side slumped to yet another heavy defeat, and a second of the season away at the Dewsbury Rams.

Dean Muir called on the experience of Gavin Duffy who returned to action from a shoulder injury after nearly 2 months on the sidelines.

Commenting post match, Muir said: “Too have an experienced head on the pitch like Gav was of great use as he was speaking to the younger lads, helping them with their game.

“However, at times when the going does get tough, there is too many looking around for someone to speak out and that is causing us problems.”

But, before Keighley could even have a sniff of possession, Rams’ hooker James Delaney had crossed for a hat-trick in the opening fifteen minutes.

After diving over from his own quick tap, the hooker was the beneficiary of two breaks down the Cougars’ left wing, racing next to and then under the posts.

In the process however, half back Jordan Aitchison’s evening was ended by a tackle attempt in which he sustained a suspected fractured collarbone.

Luke Moorby did burrow over for a consolation before veteran back Austin Buchanan dived over in the corner to re-open the three try gap.

Dom Horn crossed for the home side before Duffy marked his return to action with a try in the corner after great play from Ben Stead for the halves final score.

The second half would prove a painful one for Muir’s side as Dewsbury ran in 30 points without reply on the back of a sensational performance from Brad Delaney.

James Glover fought his way on in the 56th minute to start what would be an eventual avalanche on the Keighley line.

Ryan Langton’s break down the wing put a second of the game on a plate for Horn before poor marking in defence on the line allowed James Delaney to go over for a fourth from the play the ball.

The evening would then turn from bad to worse once more with Duffy having to depart the field to concussion after a collision in the tackle.

Brad Delaney’s kick caused havoc in the Keighley defence and allowed the half back to run through and take advantage of Connor Taylor’s knock on to race over from the free play.

And a good evening’s work for the Reserve Championships in form side would be finished in the final minute when from another break off the back of Brad Delaney’s play saw Jenson Okhovat score.
