Cocker was a great finisher . Remember a fractious game in a mudheap at keighley where he burnt the opposite winger for a great try . Sneaky kicking the play the ball and diving on it trick to !

No, Dessie was the main man that year. The other wing spot was between Leigh Smith, Lee Chilton and for a while we had Danny Ellison on loan from Wigan.

The season after, the short winter season, the main wingers were Mark Johnson and Mark Wallace.

thought we brought Mark Johnstone in to replace Stuart after scoring a few against us in prem final?

Think he was a very underated player, at least in my opinion. Pace to burn

Cocker also did the kick-through at the ptb at an away game at London to score a try where we drew 20-20

Game was on Sky, one of the best games I've seen, and All Black John Gallagher just missed with a list minute drop goal. Great following from Town fans at that game - about 1300 out of the 1700 attendance

one of the best tries of the 90 s was one at huddersfield away in the play offs  .  tony kay made a break in our 25 and went 10 yards clear with the huddersfield full back waiting  , he looked outside and dessie was just strolling alongside him  , he gave him the ball , and dessie pressed in the turbo and disappeared into the distance .

There was a huge mass brawl in that game if I remember right. On the video it shows Garry Schubert using the Huddersfield prop as a punch bag as he pulverises him all the way from centre field to the corner flag ! I recall Big Jimmy going over for a cracker in that game too.

Great scrap that. One of the Huddersfield forwards ran at dessie, who took some kind of ninja stance and the forward changed his mind. Also Schubert smacked that player all over the pitch, even after all the other fights stopped.

Kevin Pape? ... Flimby

Thats him! Seem to remember him playing outside Fawcett, thought Leigh Smith (Strong player) came later but wouldn't swear to it. Cocker came over with Mick Jenkins who was also a superb player.

Cocker was signed by Peter Walsh from Oldham, Mick Jenkins was signed by Andy platt a few years later and came over with a centre called Evan cochrane.

Leigh smith definitely played the first season in the big league and went to Australia with mully when the season ended.

Mick Jenkins ...what a player! We've had some great hookers like Roskell, McKenzie, Matty,  Lunt, Limmer and I'd put him near the top of the list.

You could add Sice and Gorley to that list too.

Even before then we had some great 9's. I grew up watching hookers like Smiler Allen and Alan Banks at Town, both great players. Colin Falcon was a good one as well.

Mick Jenkins, now that was a player. Ex newcastle knights, coached by Mal Reilly
