But he is also being recognised for his extensive charity work in Britain, including for the NSPCC, and in France, where he played for Toulon for five years.

I didn't realise Toulon was a charity...

Fair do's to Mr Wilkinson. Nothing surprises me with regards to RU players and the honours system, but I couldn't really care less about either. I did genuinely think he was already a 'Sir' though.

Manchester United certainly do.  Many of their 75,000+ gates have only 50 odd thousand in attendance.  GM Police actually counted them for some reason and the discrepancy was massive - although having seen police estimates of sizes of demonstrations, I wouldn't trust them either.

20'000 empty seats? I think you may be thinking of the other Premiership club in Manchester.

I don't think Manchester United have had less than 70'000 bums on seats in any game this season at home, but I'm aware that if you are a season ticket holder you are automatically billed for any FA Cup and Champions League games if/when drawn at home (when in the competition!). You can opt out of League Cup tickets.

It's certainly fair to say that if the attendance is 72'000 for a regular Premiership fixture at Old Trafford, then that'll be pretty much accurate.

In Topic: Should S Burgess have been included in BBC SPOTH shortlist?

One "Union" man who agrees that Sam Burgess should have been nominated for SPOTY is Brian Moore.

I heard him on Talksport earlier this week singing his praises on what an outstanding year he had just had at the Rabbitohs.

I used to think Moore was really up himself, but recently he has gone up in my estimation. Apart from Jiffy, he is the only commentator of either code who appears to genuinely enjoy both games and does not envolved himself in sly digs or patronising sounding faux appreciation of their rival sport.

Pretty much agree with you about Moore, but I think it's safe to say no-one would be nominating Burgess had he not switched codes. He's only become newsworthy in the UK sporting press because of the sport he now plays.
