Controversial comments from AB coach on SBW

"Hansen says Williams is in his natural sport after having felt duty-bound to sign his Roosters contract in 2012, honouring a handshake agreement. “His love is rugby. He really loves the game and he feels he has more freedom playing it,” Hansen said. “He’s got the chance to express himself across the park.”"

The obvious response to that is why did he sign for another year then.

Using Internationals and commercial tie ins to develop the game

28 October 2014 - 12:08 AM

The All Blacks are scheduled to play the USA Eagles Rugby Union side this weekend at Soldier's Field (home of the NFL side the Bears) in Chicago. The match is sold out (61,500 capacity stadium) and will be the biggest attendance for a Rugby Union match in the States ever by a long way. The game is being shown live on NBC (not sure if it is one of their minor channels though).

This goes to show how having an effective administration in a developing country tied in with both a visit from a top class international team and promotion by an large multinational sponsor (AIG is promoting the game heavily) can help a sport immensely.

It is something that Rugby League should look at in my view.  Surely the Australian RL team can look to increase it's support in key areas outside Australasia and the South Pacific.
