  1. Seeing the name John Godber took me back to when I worked at Wakefield MDC and did day release at Wakefield College between 1980-1984 completing my BTEC in Public Administration. One lass on the course was called Janice Godber and I am sure she told me that John was her older brother. Could have been winding me up though. Whilst driving around Adelaide today I came across ‘Strike Boy’ on the BBC Podcast. It is a 10 part series presented by Mark Watson. Mark lived in a Nottinghamshire mining community and he was 10 years when the Miners Strike commenced. Brought back lots of memories as my father was on strike for the duration.
  2. The current set up - because of the time difference - works great for me as I can watch the Thursday, Friday and Saturday night games on Friday, Saturday and Sunday mornings. Therefore, I have watched all SL games so far with the exception of the Cas v Hudds game that was not listed on the Fox Sports channels. No real downside for me regarding the presentation and commentary as this season is a learning curve and I expect improvements as we go along.
  3. Probably to stop his saliva running down his chin from sucking his dummy and falling on his Stella McCartney leopard print jacket!
  4. Dave T. Regarding the ‘walk up’ or lack of anticipated ‘walk up’ it was announced on the pre-game show that Las Vegas had been hit by a large desert storm. That was why some people attending did not get inside the stadium until after the first game was underway and may have deterred those that had not purchased a ticket from attending.
  5. 1969, you lucky bu$$er! Mine was around 1971 had to wait 15 years before walking up Wembley Way.
  6. Two absolutely cracking games. Well done to all concerned.
  7. Watched the Wire v Cas game live then went to a 9am gym class with the wife then back home to watch the Saints game followed by the Wigan game. If you fast forward every stoppage you can watch every ‘recorded’ game in an hour. A very enjoyable Saturday morning. Roll on Sunday morning!
  8. Last couple of days ‘Don’t walk away Renee’ by The Left Banke has been bouncing around the old cranium.
  9. I need to get this off my chest! I was incredibly disappointed with James Graham tonight. Immediately after the final whistle it cut to the Foxtel studio where the presenter Braith Anasta’s first words were something like ‘Penrith lost because of the referee’. Jammer should have replied ‘Hold on! Tonight you Aussies had your so called greatest team that has ever graced the turf with the so called greatest player on the planet playing in the most competitive competition and had overwhelming field position. Yet, you lot failed to beat a team you consider inferior and playing in a second rate competition. You should be effing embarrassed’. But, Jammer knows which side his bread is buttered. P.S. It will be great. It to hear ‘World Champions Penrith’ in commentary this season
  10. I have no doubt that the taking of games around the country is something that IMG have considered as part of increasing the visibility of the game day to new viewers. IMHO I would identify 6 venues. One in France/Spain for Catalans; one in the South West to have a double header involving Cornwall; plus 4 other venues across the UK that are chosen for strategic growth where there is already a RL presence albeit at an amateur level. I would also refrain from having ‘big games’ at a venue. We have 5 clubs in Wigan, Saints, Warrington, Hull and Leeds that are relatively well known so I would have them each play at the same venue every year but against different opponents. Obviously Catalans will remain in France. The key for me is to establish a regular fixture that those attending know will go ahead the following year. If, for arguments sake, the initial 6 games bring in 25,000 brand new spectators - not counting those attending that are regular SL attendees - then that is 25,000 new people that can be targeted with ads, campaigns etc. from the RFL on a regular basis. This could be a great basis from which to grow the concept.
  11. When I saw the topic title JWH to HKR I thought the poster was trying to answer a question on Only Connect!
  12. I was a bit miffed when the updates can on screen as a I prefer to watch a recorded game without knowing the score. One option - similar to what has been posted before - is to show the scores from other games at the twenty minute and sixty minute mark. The update will also be given at half time. All it takes is a graphic in the bottom right hand corner to flash ‘score updates’ for a couple of seconds before the scores are shown for a couple of seconds. It gives people time to hide behind the settee.
  13. Unfortunately that’s what occurred on the Cas Forum website after his failed drug test and ban was announced in the week leading up to 2017 GF.
  14. Thanks Damien. That is good news. I still remember when SL games were shown on Aussie terrestrial TV many years ago but that only seemed to last a few month. Hopefully this will last a lot longer.
  15. It always amuses me that one of the best lines, IMHO, from Andre Previn seems to be missed by the audience. When Eric is explaining to Andre that he cannot see Andre’s cue for when to start playing the Piano, Eric asks ‘Can’t you wear high heels’. The audience start laughing and you can just about hear Andre reply ‘Again!’.
