Tigers Overpowered By Saints

19 September 2014 - 09:01 PM

Castleford Tigers' 2014 First Utility Super League play-off campaign got off to the worst possible start after a crushing 41-0 defeat to St Helens at Langtree Park.

The Tigers held Saints for the first 25 minutes, but James Roby was instrumental in guaranteeing the home side won every minute of the game from then on, nilling Castleford in the process.

It was Roby who got the rout underway, darting from scrum-half to fool the Castleford defence, before repeating the feat minutes later to gift Saints a 12-0 lead out of nowhere.

The scoreline was 13-0 at half-time thanks to a Jordan Turner drop-goal, and suddenly the importance for Daryl Powell's side to score first after the break was clear.

That try never came though, and Turner got a try of his own to put clear daylight between the sides, and St Helens already had one foot in the next round, with a week off also coming as an added bonus.

Adam Swift was next to go over before a Shenton yellow card, and Tommy Makinson, Kyle Amor and Mose Masoe exposed the Tigers to add further insult to injury.
