  1. When my son played junior rugby, there were many issues around that concerned me - particularly about the future of the game and its administration... I wrote a letter to Richard Lewis outlining my points and asked to discuss them further. I was invited to a meeting with him at Red Hall. We spent a good 3 hours or so in debate and conversation. I can tell you for a fact that his passion for Rugby League was as "up there" as any could ask for - and that passion was also embraced by his family too.. Because he came from a neutral background - he held no bias views on what was best for the game - he took it forward based on as clean a sheet we have had to date.. The current set of "leaders" come nowhere near in terms of intelligence, presentability, professionalism and vision. You may not agree with or even recognise what he achieved - but there is not one person at Red Hall now who comes near him. And that should be a major concern for all of us..
  2. Without fully quoting the OP - its fairly indicative of ONE of the underlying views that hold back our game from within. I just cannot see the issue. ANY marketing campaign for ANY product - ATEOTD is down to individual choices and we all have a brain enough to decide where we go to watch rugby or buy food and clothes. ASDA advertise outside Morrisons and vice versa - but them who like Morrisons stay there. I have chosen to watch Dewsbury, Batley and Featherstone while paying for a Bulls season ticket - and I did that through freedom of choice. And long may it reign - and while we are on reigns - lets get rid of some chuffin BLINKERS
  3. Bradford Northern/Bulls since 1964 - but the McNamara era has crushed my passion now. Since then - I have mellowed my views toward some clubs I used to dislike intensely (based on either obnoxious fans in my vicinity or similar players or coaches....) I too like to see the "expansion" clubs do well - Catalan, Crusaders & London and this thread is interesting that it has pulled out a few like minded thinkers into saying so.. I admire Wigan for their planning and marketing. Glad to see Warrington increase their gates Pleased for Salford with their new ground and cash to spend. Soft spot for Wakefield due to spending time in the past with Neil Fox - who - for all his achievments, is an absolutley fantastic person with no edge - a true gent and epitomises our sport. Also have great memories of Ian Brook & Berwyn Jones. Batley Bulldogs and Sheffield in the lower divisions Paramatta in Aus (Brian Smith connection)
  4. I think Danny McGuire is in with a shout too
  5. Aye lad - I think you may be.. Always remember - there is no such thing as the "good old days". I think the VR is fantastic - its added another dimension the game, the wait, the result, the controversy, the drama and the shots of the crowd tingling with nerves - just add to the thrills for me. I accept there have been errors - but regardless - where there is a human interaction with the technology, errors will be made as thats what we do. Its not good when you are on the wrong end of it, but without the benefit of the re-run, the original instant decision has a high possibility of being wrong anyway. I fail to understand why some berate "our" system when the World Cup puffball pundits as screaming out for FIFA to bring it in. And just look at the attitude of their "chairman" - twerp. NB. And as I hit "Submit" - I am wondering if Michael Withers try in the 99 GF would have been awarded with no VR!!!
  6. Excellent photos Gary.. May I ask; Are you allowed on the touchline with you camera? The shots are incredibly clear so I assume the strong sunlight has assisted, but I am interested in the equipment used.. I assume (again) you have invested in a pro class camera body and a lens thats about
  7. Good Things "Sold Out" - great news and as said - need to sort out the corporate waste of tickets. Sheer quality of Warrington's defence for the full 80 - magnificent Danny McGuire - incredible work rate in attack and defence Broadcasted in HD Looked good on TV Bad Thing The fight! But watching on TV - didn't have a clue it was happening. Minor Niggles Poor woman who sang had a faulty microphone - poor do! Not enough cameras Leeds fans walking out - Leeds tried hard and didn't deserve to have that done. Question Did the knock on from the kick off just tip the mental scales to Wires advantage from that very first second?
  8. Got me there - never had the courage or the physique to play! Can't argue with your view or experience - but I have watched an awful lot of rugby at every level... When I watch as a neutral I often don't follow the ball - but take interest in off ball patterns and incidents etc. Overall - I don't think RL has sunk to the depths of football (as I hotly debate with football fans) - and overall, is a more "honest" game. Also thinks its less prevalent in the TV games for obvious reasons! That said - I have witnessed all the stuff you mentioned too - specially when I can get nearer the touchlines
  9. If you remove the emotions of each set of fans and take out personalities, examine the footage of the incident, then its very similar to what "top" international footballers get up to (and the rest). Its one of the many reasons I despise football(ers)... Low down trick and don't want to see it in Rugby League - not bothered which team or player - just don't want it.
  10. Not sure about this.. Whenever the stadium issue hits the T & A, the vitriol from City fans is intense - add on those from Keighley and it gets worse... If you mention a ground share - you get the same reaction - some verge on hatred.. Haven't noticed if they are from a few posters or many different ones.
  11. Unfortunately, as I found in 2006, this was "the plan". I raised various points with regard to Customer retention and loss of Customers at the time. The answer was "A New Stadium" in a nutshell - but that isn't a plan - it's a gamble.
  12. The only people who know exactly what happened are those who were there at the time.. Until the police conclude and state the next step - maybe best to quit the speculation on here and leave it to the press. Thread Locked?
  13. I am a Bradfordian (rarely admit this in public) - so what I am about to say may annoy my fellow citizens ... Bradford folk are fickle, rigid, set in their ways and dont accept change, they are happier moaning about "stuff" than being positive and they certainly do not change habits of a lifetime (armchair critical supporters) - in a sentence - a general stereotypical summary. However, bearing this in mind - what the Bulls achieved at the time was all the more remarkable - a view I have held since the gaps on the terraces got filled (and emptied again). I was so annoyed that all the hard work was being frittered away that I wrote & met Mr Hood in 2006 - and since then it got worse! I also wrote to Wigan at the time - who were losing games but attendances were rising. ATEOTD - Wigan had a plan, they stuck to the plan, they moved to a great new stadium, they found the right chairman and they found the right coach - add to that the people of Wigan being if a different ilk to Bradford - and you have what you have at Wigan. Bradford had a plan, they stuck to the plan but it wasn't as good, we continue to play in a depression inducing hole, the chairman is the only one who wants the job and we backed the wrong coach - add to that the fickle Bradford folk - and you have what you have at Bradford. Hope this answers at least one question! Mick - this thread needs re-titling now!
