  1. Hull's Sporting Life: Tony Collins

Yes, we covered baseball in the chapter, so it will be covered in the talk too.
  2. Saturday, 3rd February, 11am, University of Hull - Public Talk 'The Sporting Life of the City' Speaker: Professor Tony Collins, Professor of History, De Montfort University. City, Rovers, Hull and much more… How did sport become so important to Hull? This talk traces the history of sport in Hull from the early 1800s to present day, exploring the rise of rugby, football, cricket and athletics and many other sports that the city has taken to its heart. It looks at how women in Hull have participated and highlights the role that immigrants have played in creating the city’s sporting culture. Most importantly, it asks what makes sport in Hull so important to so many people. 3. "Whoever wins the trophy, the tournament’s real story is the rise of Tonga, Fiji, Lebanon and the other national sides whose players were drawn from diaspora communities in Europe, Australia and New Zealand". Great article by Tony here: https://theconversation.com/how-rugby-leagues-relaxed-rules-for-diaspora-players-gave-the-sport-a-new-lease-of-life-88104
  4. Tony Collins

Your argument is futile. He would not accept it so there is nothing to "exploit" (something which would be a cynical move anyway). Even this thread is a complete waste of time. Tony has the title he's always wanted, that of Professor of History, and he is bloody brilliant at that. If you want to honour him, buy his books and keep them in print.
  5. Tony Collins

There's no point. Like Bennett and Bowie he would turn it down. He's a republican.
  6. I am risking my life here, but it I want KR to win. It would be good for the city and might give FC a much-needed kick up the backside. I shall be there as a fan of the game in a black skirt with white stars. ;-)
  7. Where are you from, who do you support?

Born Aylesbury Lived most of life in Hull Used to support Hull FC, but now I would consider this a grudging affilliation. I support the game and dislike most teams. :-D
  8. hull fc shirt!

No permission needed to use names. Bill tried to list every player who played first team football and it's something he worked on for a long time. He's done the same for HKR too. As had already said, it gets complicated when an A.N. Other played and there's no indication anywhere whether they were subsequently signed or went elsewhere. Every club struggles to get a complete list without errors. It's a mammoth task.
  9. You might want to explain what you mean by safe and the sort of person you're wanting to hear from...
  10. Rugby League books

Available to pre-order now is The Oval World: A Global History of Rugby by Tony Collins. 608 pages for a mere £25. I'm lucky enough to know the contents and no one on this forum will be disappointed. https://www.amazon.co.uk/dp/1408843706/ref=cm_sw_r_awd_Liupvb0PGJR66
  11. I didn't realise how much of a ball and chain a season pass is until I gave it up. I really thought I'd miss it, but I have had no regrets so far. It's like a huge black cloud has gone from above my head and it's liberating. I still care about the club, but I dont take it to heart like I used to. When the club are prepared to put in some proper investment in to the coaching and management team, I'll reinvest my time. Until then, I'm not going to be a slave to a fixture list.
  12. As a huge Aerosmith fan, that is the only thing that would make me regret not renewing my season pass this year.
  13. Anyone wanting some cheap tickets to see the Hull derby on April 2nd can find them for the West Stand Upper on Groupon. £5 for One child ticket to Hull FC v Hull KR (50% off) £10 for One concession ticket to Hull FC v Hull KR (33% off) £15 for One adult ticket to Hull FC v Hull KR (21% off) It's hard to see whether this is an FC initiated deal or a Super League one, but if the link on the page is any indication it's come from Super League. I know the RFL has a specific target for sell-out games and this is one of them. With 178 tickets sold in two days since this went online it will be interesting to see whether this works.
  14. Giants and Bulls fans- Keith Burhouse

A nice gesture. KB certainly loved his rugby and will be missed.
  15. Gentle tipped to leave Hull

Just met with Radford at the KC on the Walk Against Cancer for the Steve Prescott Foundation. He's in good spirits.
