  5. JT and The Claws joined in the fun at the opening of Disability Sport Yorkshire's new HQ, the Denhale ARC in Wakefield, on Monday 16th February. After the official opening by The Lord Mayor of Wakefield The Claws launched into one of their highly charged routines before taking their seats in adapted wheelchairs and taking a full part in the wheelchair basketball. There was a throwback to school netball as The Claws scored many baskets. The purpose of the day was to showcase the great facilities at Denhale and to present opportunities for inclusive sports for young and old. JT played his part as did the Tigers Trust community staff who delivered an inclusive rugby session as well as taking part in the table tennis and indoor cricket. The day was a great success. Kevan Halliday-Brown, Chief Executive of Disability Sport Yorkshire thanked everyone for the support at the official opening and community open day event and said: "'This went better than we could have hoped with huge attendance, lots of feedback and leads to follow-up." The Denhale Active Recreation Centre is on Denhale Avenue, Wakefield WF2 9EF Tel: 01924 372382. Click here for more info. View the full article

  11. Linzi Prescott, wife of the late Rugby League star Steve Prescott, is calling on Castleford Tigers fans to join her in this year's Great Manchester Run. Linzi has joined 'Radcliffe's Great Runners', set up by athletics legend Paula Radcliffe. She is taking part in the Morrisons Great Manchester Run on Sunday, May 10, in aid of the Steve Prescott Foundation, established in the name of her husband, who enjoyed a distinguished career. The mum-of-two showed great courage with her support during Steve's seven-year struggle against a rare form of abdominal cancer before he died in November 2013. Amazingly, he carried out a series of gruelling sporting challenges despite his illness, raising funds for the charity. Linzi is taking part to raise money for the Foundation and would love it if you could do the same, donate or even run to support your club, or the Tigers Trust. More than £700,000 has already been donated so far to the Steve Prescott Foundation and Linzi is hoping the high-profile help of Paula Radcliffe will take the total closer to the £1m target. As one of six 'Radcliffe's Great Runners', Linzi will get training advice from the marathon world record holder and a final pep talk on race day. Linzi said: "There isn't a sporting bone in my body and running doesn't come naturally to me. However, Stephen put us all to shame with what he did when he was seriously ill so there are no excuses. "I think about him through every mile in training and he gives me the boost to carry on. I'm sure he'll be looking down on me when I do the Morrisons Great Manchester Run." Paula Radcliffe said: "I'm delighted that Linzi's going to be part of my team. She's such a special person, having shown such strength and spirit over several years during Steve's terrible illness. "I'm sure Linzi will inspire all those running for the Steve Prescott Foundation to raise as much as they can. It's one of dozens of charities which will benefit from much-needed sponsorship raised by up to 40,000 people in the Morrisons Great Manchester Run." The Morrisons Great Manchester Run takes place on Sunday, May 10. To find out more and enter go to www.greatrun.org To sponsor Linzi go to justgiving.com/LinziPrescott or simply text the word honk90 to 70070 The Steve Prescott Foundation supports Try Assist for seriously injured Rugby League players, The Christie and the Oxford Transplant Foundation.
