  6. The Big Fella’s Stadium is the place to be this Saturday for a double helping of Ladbrokes Challenge Cup action. At 2pm the intriguing tie between Featherstone Lions, the lowest ranked team in the competition, and local rivals Castleford Lock Lane kicks off. Both sides accounted for professional opposition in the last round with Lions defeating South Wales Scorpions at the Mill Pond whilst Lock Lane won away at Oxford. The teams were drawn together by Paul Wellens and Adrian Morley and the tie guarantees that one amateur team will progress through to the fifth round of the Challenge Cup next month. Admission to the game is £5 adults and £3 concessions and juniors. The action moves to the Cappers’ Bar later in the day as the Club has been given permission to stream the Rovers game with London Broncos live from 8pm. The staging of the game in London at 8pm on a Saturday evening was not helpful to travelling fans but having tested the technology earlier this year and with the co-operation of both the Broncos and the RFL, this gives the opportunity for fans to watch the game on a day which will hopefully see both Featherstone clubs progress to the next stage of the tournament.
  7. Featherstone Rovers Head Coach Jon Sharp has named his 19 man squad for the visit of newly promoted Oldham RLFC on Sunday (KICK OFF 3PM). Admission on Sunday is £18 adults, £12 concessions and £5 juniors with Rovers looking to carry on their Kingstone Press Championship campaign following the postponement of last week’s fixture at Whitehaven. We will also be showing Manchester United vs Arsenal (2.05pm) and the Capital One Cup Final from Wembley between Manchester City and Liverpool (4.30pm) in the Cappers Bar. Jon Sharp said “We are looking forward to getting back on the pitch following the postponement of our trip to Whitehaven. We had mixed feelings about the game being called off as we wanted to carry on with the momentum we built up against Batley but with the injury crisis at Leeds Rhinos and a couple of knocks we were carrying, we were a bit short on numbers. It will add a bit of pressure further down the line depending on when the game is re-arranged but it means we are well prepared for this weekend. “Oldham had a great win last week against Dewsbury Rams and it was no fluke and they won on merit. I’ve watched the game and also their performance against Leigh and they are an exciting team. They show plenty of skill, particularly with the ball in hand and they are adapting to Championship rugby well following their promotion. Round 3 in the Kingstone Press Championship proved that if you don’t go in to the game in the right frame of mind, then you can get beat by anybody. Jamie Cording returns from his shoulder injury so that is a positive and Colton Roche also returns following his suspension and a slight knock, he’s been training well and is raring to go.” Featherstone Rovers 19 man squad 21 Bradley Tagg 1 Danny Craven 2 Kyran Johnson 18 Jamie Cording 3 Michael Channing 17 Jack Ormondroyd 5 Scott Turner 12 John Davies 15 Ian Hardman 8 Darrell Griffin 7 Anthony Thackeray 16 Colton Roche 13 Tim Spears 6 Kyle Briggs 20 Luke Cooper 14 Will Milner 19 Sam Day 10 Andy Bostock 4 Misi Taulapapa

  10. Featherstone Rovers Head Coach Jon Sharp has announced his 19 man squad for Sunday’s fixture against Batley Bulldogs at the Big Fella’s Stadium (KICK OFF 3PM) in Round 2 of the Kingstone Press Championship. Admission on Sunday is £18 adults, £12 Concessions and £5 juniors. Supporters who have yet to purchase their 2016 season tickets are encouraged to do so on SATURDAY MORNING (10am-midday) to ease pressure on the main office on Sunday. The Cappers Bar will be open from midday on Sunday showing live Premier League football with Arsenal vs Leicester City (midday), Aston Villa vs Liverpool (2.05pm) and Manchester City vs Tottenham Hotspur (4.15pm). The Cappers Bar will also be open until late after the game with local female duo Bellisima on stage from 5.45pm singing songs from the 60s to the modern day with all draught products at happy hour prices. Looking back on the opening trip to Bradford Bulls, Jon Sharp said “We came up against a really good team last weekend at Odsal who played well and defended to a high standard. Last week gave us an idea where we are at and we created some good opportunities. In the end, we were naturally disappointed not to come away with a victory but were encouraged particularly when we had 11 new starters in the squad. “We were frustrated with the penalty count which made it tougher for ourselves and there were too many unforced errors which again put us under unnecessary pressure.” Batley Bulldogs arrive at the Big Fella’s Stadium following their opening day victory against Leigh Centurions and Jon is aware that Sunday will be tough contest. Jon continued “John Kear is renowned for pulling off shock victories and they will be buoyant and full of confidence after last week. It is always a challenge against Batley and everyone will remember the last match between the two clubs. Hopefully both sets of fans will come out in force and create a good atmosphere at the Big Fella’s Stadium. “Unfortunately, Jamie Cording picked up a rib injury at Bradford so misses out this week with Sam Day coming into the match day squad. Our three players from Leeds Rhinos stay in the squad on merit as they really added to our play last weekend. Achurch looked good, Handley look strong on the ball and Baldwinson carried on from last season and looked happy to back in a Rovers shirt.” Jon Sharp also provided an update to the injury that Matty Wildie sustained in pre-season. Jon said “Unfortunately we received a blow in mid-week that Matty has a an ACL injury which will rule him out for the remainder of the season. It’s a devastating blow for the club and the player who has been working hard since he arrived at the club. A lot of our recruitment and plans were centred around Matty at 9, so it’s a case of back to the drawing board for us in that respect and we are on the lookout for a solution to this pivotal role in the team.” Featherstone Rovers 19 Man Squad 14 Will Milner, 15 Ian Hardman, 6 Kyle Briggs, 5 Scott Turner, 1 Danny Craven, 7 Anthony Thackeray, 4 Misi Taulapapa, 3 Michael Channing, 20 Luke Cooper, 10 Andy Bostock, 8 Darrell Griffin, 19 Sam Day, 21 Brad Tagg, 17 Jack Ormondroyd, 12 John Davies, 13 Tim Spears, DR Ash Handley, DR Mitch Achurch and DR Jordan Baldwinson.

  14. Featherstone Rovers Head Coach Jon Sharp has named his squad for our final pre-season friendly match against Leeds Rhinos on Sunday (KICK OFF 3PM). Don’t forget that the treble winning side will be bringing their three trophies along with them and will be on display along with the Kingstone Press Championship Shield for a unique photo opportunity in the Cappers Bar from 12.30pm onwards. Leeds Rhinos players who have not been selected will be in the Cappers Bar from 2.15pm prior to kick off to meet supporters of both clubs too! Admission on Sunday is £14 adults, £10 concessions and £3 juniors and tickets can be pre-purchased from the main office at the stadium (open Monday to Friday 9am-5pm and Saturday morning 10am-midday) or from the match ticket office in the main car park on Sunday from midday. Jon Sharp said “It’s a big challenge for us on Sunday against a side with some Super League experience. They have probably been the dominant club in the sport for the last decade so it is great they are coming to the Big Fella’s Stadium. The players are looking forward to testing themselves and in my mind there is a couple of places up for grabs for making the squad for our first Kingstone Press Championship game of the season against Bradford Bulls a week on Sunday. “It will be the first time we will see Briggs and Thackeray linking up in the half backs and for us to fine tune some of our combinations. This game will see the culmination of three months preparation during pre-season and the importance of this fixture cannot be underestimated. “I was asked a question by a journalist this week if I would be watching both sets of players due to our link-up with the Rhinos but my response was that I’m Head Coach of Featherstone Rovers so will be concentrating on our players and how they perform on Sunday.” Featherstone Rovers Squad Danny Craven Louis Brown Will Milner Kyran Johnson Luke Cooper Michael Channing Bradley Tagg Misi Taulapapa Jack Ormondroyd Ian Hardman John Davies Scott Turner Tim Spears Kyle Briggs Jamie Cording Anthony Thackeray Andy Bostock Darrel Griffin Matty Wildie
