  1. Supporters Direct Community Champion Award 2017 To celebrate our success in Rugby League, Supporters Direct are proud to announce the continuation of the Supporters Direct Community Champion Award, to be presented at the Kingstone Press Championship and League One Gala Dinner held by the Rugby Football League in September. Supporters’ Direct are looking for fans that have gone above and beyond the call of duty this season, those who support their team through adversity or give their time to benefit the community and this year we have started our search early after the overwhelming amount of entries we received for the 2016 award. The 2017 SD Community Champion and a plus one will be invited as guests of honour to the Kingston Press Championship and League One Gala Dinner and will be presented their award in front of a star-studded audience. Last year’s winner, David Naylor worked tirelessly as a volunteer for Oldham RLFC, helping connect supporters digitally, giving his spare time to assist in bringing the community of Oldham closer to the club and was a thoroughly worthy recipient. So, do think the award should have your name on it? Or do you know an unsung hero tucked away at the back of the bleachers who deserves some long overdue recognition for the work they do for your club, the community and the game? Well get in touch! Email nicola.hudson@supporters-direct.org with the email subject "Community Champion" and tell us in no more than 500 words why you or someone you know deserves to be the Supporters Direct Community Champion 2017. Don't forget to include which club the nominee supports as well as the nominee's contact details. The winner will be chosen by a selected panel of SD Rugby League Council members. Applications close at midnight on 31st August 2017. Winners will be notified by 4th September 2017. Last Years Winner Dave Naylor

  4. As we move to the conclusion of another fantastic Rugby League Season, Supporters Direct is excited to announce we have teamed up with the RFL once again to find a worthy winner of the SD Community Champion Award 2016. The winner of the award will be invited along with a guest to the star-studded annual Kingstone Press Championship and League 1 Dinner on Monday 12th September 2016 at The Queens Hotel Leeds, where they will enjoy a meal and be presented their award live on stage. Supporters Direct are asking people to nominate individuals whom they believe have gone above and beyond the call of duty while supporting their Rugby League Club this season. We are particularly looking for individuals who help build and improve the relationships between the club they support and its fan base, or those who encourage their clubs to have a greater level of community involvement or are involved directly themselves with engaging the wider local community. SD is looking to honour that person, often unsung and unrecognised who does the most to brighten up the lives of people around them, at their club and in their community. The aim is not just to recognise those individuals who have gone beyond what is asked of them, but to also encourage others to look at the relationship between sporting clubs and their communities, inspire people to become more actively involved local issues and to take a more positive view on the future of their local communities and clubs. Nominations must be made via the form on the Supporters Direct website HERE. Entries must include the name of the nominated individual along with contact details, the name of the club they support, and an overview of why they should be named the Supporters Direct Community Champion 2016 in no more than 500 words. You can nominate yourself if you wish! Entries will be reviewed by a panel made up of members of the SDRL Council and the winner will be decided by their majority decision. The winner will be the supporter that the panel judges to best fit the above criteria. Closing date for entries will be 31st August 2016 with the winner being notified by 6th September 2016. We would encourage fans to nominate anyone they feel should be considered for this award to give them the chance to receive the recognition that they deserve.

Supporters Direct will be holding their second annual Voice of the Fans day on Saturday 17th October at the fantastic Heritage Quay in Huddersfield University. Last year was a roaring success with many fans of Rugby League attending and enjoying the chance to take part in informative workshops and hear from a number of high profile speakers as well as networking with likeminded supporters and this year’s event promises to be bigger and better! In line with the ongoing Rugby League 120th celebrations, this year’s Voice of the Fans is themed around the anniversary. The day will begin with an opening address from keynote speakers Nigel Wood, Chief Executive Director, Rugby Football League and Phil Bentham, Rugby League referee. There are four workshops running throughout the day discussing heritage, Rugby League memories, community involvement as well as a session dedicated to Supporters Direct’s ongoing work assisting and empowering fans. After the workshops delegates will be given the opportunity to take part in a lively Q&A session around the topic of the New Era, chaired by Matthew Horton from Radio Yorkshire with a panel consisting of Greg Mullholland, MP for Leeds West and Chair of the All Party Parliamentary Rugby League Group, Mark Foster, Marketing Director for the Rugby Football League and Phil Caplin, author, journalist and publisher. As well as the workshops and speakers there will be a host of exhibitors stalls on display and all attending delegates will also be given the chance to purchase tickets for the upcoming England v France international match for just £5. “This is the must attend event for all League fans and we are privileged to offer the opportunity for supporters to ask the questions you really want to directly to Nigel Wood, Mark Foster and a senior International referee.
