  1. With twelve of this seasons Bronco squad playing in the World Cup and no less than seven London origin players in the Jamaica squad to play France it goes to show the importance of our capital for international development. Given the resources of the two London sides I would say London are punching above their weight in promoting the world game.

  3. In case anyone hadn't been paying attention, there's now a 37-page thread about a Martyn Sadler report suggesting that existing "Super" League clubs are uneasy about Toronto getting into SL because of "lack of away fans". The Wolfpack's first season is turning out to be an unparalleled success, drawing a bigger average crowd in the third tier of the UK pro game than 4 current SL clubs did last year. They've shown that the logistics are workable and there's a market for RL in North America. We know also that Eric Pérez thinks big and playing in the lower divisions was never more than a stepping stone in his view. We know also that the RFL have received expressions of interest from other potential ownership groups looking to back other North American clubs. If for some reason existing clubs managed to block Toronto getting into SL, what chance of a breakaway led by Argyle and Pérez forming a new transatlantic league and inviting select European clubs including London, Toulouse and a few others to join them along with those other new groups in Montréal etc? Would Leeds, Wigan and St Helens (for example) want to stay in the league they're in now or join the new one?
  4. With the much awaited game at New River, Skolars v Toronto on Saturday and the intriguing Broncos v Bulls on Sunday, it should be a feast of RL in the capital this weekend. One wonders how much the weight of expectation will play on the Pack men's minds, but I bet they will be glad to play on rubber rather than mud. Skolars have nothing lose by giving it their best shot in a season opener before a big crowd for Champ 1. The Broncos have ground out three unconvincing wins on the road and will be desperate to notch a win to cement their top 4 slot. The Bulls will be equally keen to reduce their points arrears and continue their Herculean task of making the top four. One wonders whether the London media will show any interest in the proceedings? Hopefully a lot of the latent RL fans will re-appear for some of this action.

  7. Please support our Development Area club Exeter Centurions were formed in 2007, and have competed in the South West RL every summer since that time. As the RFL has lost its funding from Sport England, the game in the south west is now without any central financial backing whatsoever. Added to that, insurance and pitch hire costs have escalated dramatically. The running costs of the club are over £1500 per year. The local players and volunteers contribute towards the cost of running the club, but we really need external support to keep the game alive in Devon's capital city. We don't expect something for nothing - whether it be shirt or programme sponsorship for your business, or buying replica shirts and merchandise as a supporter, we are happy to credit our sponsors and provide suitable rewards. I know all clubs are strapped for cash, but the one thing we don’t have in the South West is a past generation of former players willing and able to help their old clubs with time, money or sponsorship. That’s why we’re coming to you, the wider RL community, to ask for help. If you can donate the cost of a pint, we’ll be able to keep our pioneering club alive and well. I know it’s early days, but we’ve already had two ex-Centurions play professional games with Featherstone Rovers and Oxford RL. Who knows – the next Louis McCarthy Scaresbrook, Tony Clubb or Dan Sarginson might be about to begin their RL careers in Exeter…. Thanks in advance for your kind support!
