I really like the last one. Must have a go at this photography lark. Is a point and click one OK to start with or do you need to go down the SLR route.

Starting with point and click is fine, learn composition, you don't need anything fancy to compose and frame a good shot.

Nice one Craig.

Thanks :). Quite pleased with it given it's just a spur of the moment shot on my iPhone. A friend has just bought one of the boats and we'd had a good day out on it with some beer and food to celebrate.

Really like that photo.

My dad was a professional photographer and growing up in Portsmouth had a fascination with boats of all kinds so we always had lots of pics of boats up around the house. Dad was also something of an amateur artist and loved to copy his photos onto canvas using either oil paints or pastels.

All the more impressive given it was a camera phone you used to take it.

I could make it a boring old farts thread, by asking if the OP had taken into account CAA laws and regs about not flying with in 50 meters of any person, building or vehicle not under your control, only taking off and landing on land they own or have permission to do so and a few others.  But I don't want to be that guy as I like drone footage, but agree it should have its own thread!

I rarely take good pics but my friend is a very good photographer. His view is that it's an art so the equipment is only a part of a good photo. A good photographer can take a good photo on any kit but a poor photographer won't take a good photo just because he has a £2000 camera.

When you are served a nice meal people don't tell the chef that they must have a good oven.

Another one I like is; "That's a nice camera, I bet it takes good photos?", reply "yes, I taught it everything it knows."

On the subject of drones, on my latest Greek excursion to Parga there was a very traditional Greek wedding taking place, in the past we have seen the brides procession, they dance through town with musicians in front and the bride and family dance down the road, usually accompanied by a photographer. This time they were also escorted by a drone filming just a few feet above the procession.

There is some great drone footage knocking about, people do seem to pay scant regard to the rules and regs though, wonder how long it'll be before they start being enforced or tightened up.
