Greg Inglis to miss 4 nations

40 posts in this topic

All we need now is another 30 or 40 Aussie supermen to go under the knife and we might have a chance. :D

Joking aside, one man (even Lockyer, never mind Inglis) doesn't make a team. The Aussies will still be too strong for us, I fear. Also, if I allow myself to dream, I'd rather beat a full-strength Aussie team than a weakened one.

Big loss for the Aussie's, he was their go to player when things got tight.

We now have a better chance.

Oh no, I'll happilly see us beat them whatever shape their in. :D

Inglis missing will be a blow, but I think the biggest problem they'll have is in the halfbacks. Lockyer's out at the moment but should be back, and Thurston is out for the year. NSW showed in the Origin series that that they haven't got any decent halves, so the Aussies team selection could be interesting.

Todd Carney is better than any half in SL. But I suppose that still doesn't mean he's "decent".

cooper cronk a top player will probly be in for thurston and could we see lyons in an aussie no.6 shirt or kirt gidley taking over from locky

no folau or inglis will be a massive boost for englands chances, they will put 2other top centres in like gasnier, tonga, cooper or morris to name a few but they wont do as much damage as folau n inglis would of IMO B)

That is your opinion, just like thirteenthman was stating his opinion.

Well done Dave. How did you come up with that piece of genius?

It was more a clarification around the fact that you always state your opinion as fact, whilst dismissing everybody elses as nonsense.

Carney has never played in the SL, and most of the halves in SL haven't played in the NRL. We have seen some players come over here and look very good, and then others look absolutely pants, so to make direct comparisons is very difficult, whereas your opinion tends to be that if they are an Aussie they are better.

It would be very interesting to see the likes of Carney up against the likes of Tompkins and Eastmond.

My opinions are stated in exactly the same way as everyone else's. Saying NSW has no decent halves is no different to me saying England don't have any. Funny how you didn't jump in to point out the anti-Australian opinions on here are only opinions. I think that says it all really. You're quite happy to let people have their opinions and have them uncontested unless you don't like them yourself.

Don't make assumptions. The reason I didn't comment on the NSW halves, is because it is not an area I know a great deal about. Also don't tar me with the same brush as others on here, who are not prepared to discuss things reasonably with you, I have frequently, however your aggressive and arrogant manner has often put me off continuing debates.

Just like you picked up on the point that NSW had no halves, I picked up on the lack of quality halves in SL comment. Compared to a couple of years ago we actually have some decent options to play there, and both Tomkins and Eastmond did well on their debuts, and if fit will hopefully go even better this year.

Someone has to counter the ignorant ###### on here. The mods certainly don't do it. Just look at some of the suggestions people are making on here. It's clear no one is even watching the NRL. It's little wonder people on here struggle to comprehend matters of culture and identity when they don't even know what's going on in RL.

Keep up your debates with those people, and when I start using insults bordering on racism then pull me on it too.

While I agree that you can come across as a bit aggressive, ECT, at least you get a response. I try a more down played tone and get completely ignored almost every time. Lose/lose situation here.

 Unfortunately that can be a problem if your view or approach is not controversial on some of these Aussie threads, they get completely overlooked...

Just a question, how many sl games are shown in the land of oz?

If you think there's so much 'ignorant ######' on this site why do you keep reading it? It's all a matter of opinions - you have yours, I have mine. The difference is you feel the need to make personal attacks on anyone who disagrees with you. And talking about NSW halfbacks have very little to do with 'culture and identity'.

Firstly I have been watching the 4 or 5 NRL matches shown here every week this season. So I hope you agree I'm entitled to an opinion. My comment on the lack of decent halves in NSW was referring to the Origin series which NSW lost for the 5th year in a row. Todd Carney is very good - I never said he wasn't - but why wasn't he picked for the Origins? Did you call the NSW selectors and accuse them of being ignorant because they didn't pick him? As for whether he's better than any half in SL - better than some, but it's very hard to tell.

Someone else mentioned Jarryd Hayne - he's better at full back, and his form this season has been patchy at best. I still think Jamie Lyon played better in the centres, and Mitchell Pearce is not the finished article yet. There's always Jamie Soward, but I wouldn't rate him in the same class as Lockyer or Thurston. NSW also used Kimmorley and Barrett - I assume you're not suggesting they should be picked for Australia.

So ECT, if Lockyer and Thurston are missing, who would you pick in the halves for Australia?

I was over in Sydney at Easter and Channel 9 showed a match late on Sunday night, around Midnight. According to Dally in another thread, they're still showing the 1 game each week now. I think he said the CC Final was shown on the Sunday night as well.

I think the loss of GI from the Aussie squad is good news for England.

I'd say there are a fair number of quality Backs in SL the likes of Eastmond, Briers, Longy, S Tomkins, McGuire, Myler, Hall, Atkins, Lomax, T Briscoe, Senior, Thomas, Bosc, etc.

Will the Aussie selectors forget about (snub?) Jamie Soward in the way the NSW selectors did?

I presume you are putting yourself up for that job then?

To be honest, I don't think you have the correct skill set.

Application denied.

i agree with you 100% that hayne is better at fb but nobody is going to displace billy slater!

i'd prefer to have him in at 6 IF lockyer isn't fit than on a wing where his chance to affect the game is limited.

He has been patchy but on his day he's the worlds best and you have to take risks!

You're right about Slater. I thought Parramatta tried Hayne at no6 last year but moved him back to full back. I don't think he's ever actually pulled off a big performance when it really matters. I suppose his test form could be excused by him being out of position, but until he can produce the goods consistently I wouldn't rate him world class. Also, I didn't think much of his comment about how much test players are paid.

To be fair Hayne wouldn't be the first Aussie player to miss out on Test selection just because there's someone even better than him in the side. For me you should play a recognised stand off in that position.
