Obituary Corner

A very interesting Telegraph obituary of Griffiths.

http://www.telegraph...-Griffiths.html

As interesting as the characters he played.

I thought Richard Griffiths an excellent actor. His Uncle Monty in "Withnail and I" was really funny. The schoolteacher in "The History Boys" was also very good, but my favourite was the accountant in another Alan Bennett film "A Private Function."A very funny film. Anyone brought up in the immediate post-war years as I was should watch this film - it's redolent of the class system that died in the sixties. Has some excellent perfomances from Maggie Smith, Michael Palin, Liz Smith and Denhom Elliot

'A Private Function' is a wonderful film, but for some reason it hardly ever gets shown on TV, and was unavailable on DVD for ages.

Poor poor Annette Funicello, what a terrible last few years.

I'd heard she was ill, but reading that obituary was a shock, finding out just how bad it had been.

Marie-Claire Alain, French organist

Saw her perform at the RFH and St Albans cathedral when I was a student. Magical memories.

Her father and brothers were also organists, and composers too. Marie-Claire edited many of their compositions.
