Same here, but he did start broadcasting at a very young age. A remarkable figure in British television history.

I can't help but think of terrible coincidence that Saturday was also when the new and undoubtedly awful Keith Lemon version of Through the Keyhole started.

Same here, but he did start broadcasting at a very young age. A remarkable figure in British television history.

I think that for most people under 40 all he'll be remembered for is Through the Keyhole. I never knew about his earlier prowess until the film a few years back.

Among the talent he helped on their way into broadcasting were The Two Ronnies, David Nobbs, John Sullivan, Peter Tinniswood, John Cleese, Graham Chapman, Eric Idle, Michael Palin, Terry Jones, Bill Oddie, Tim Brooke-Taylor, Frank Muir, Denis Norden, Barry Cryer, Marty Feldman, Dick Vosburgh and Antony Jay. Pretty impressive.
