Peaches Geldof. 25 years old. Tragic

Unbelievable. Two kids left behind, too. Very sad.

Very sad news about Peaches Geldof. I was hardly a fan but a very sad tale and I feel for her father who must be in the pits of despair.

Poor kid.

Absolutely terrible to die so young with two small children.

Tragic but not worth all the newspaper headlines. This was the lead article in Metro for 2 days. She was hardly Mandela.

I'd be surprised if her family wanted two pages of front page headlines with multiple articles on pages 2 and 3.

My old deputy head and maths teacher from prep school. I threw a couple of chairs at him once, as he was a sadistic old #### who seemed to enjoy hurting us kids. The next day, I was summoned to his office, expecting an epic beating, but he sat me down and we talked for quite a while.

That was in my last term there. I heard later that he had become a reformed and popular character.

Gabriel Garcia Marquez, who was either 1.a very gifted author or 2.a dreadful leftie lionised by dreadful leftie Guardianista types.

Take your pick.

He could be both!

I liked "El coronel no tiene le que escribir" which is one of the few books I've read in Spanish but hated "100 years of solitude" even though I tried to read it in English.

 "100 years of solitude"

I read it and experienced it at the same time.

According to what I've just been told, actor Bob Hoskins' death has just been announced.

Somebody who you think would last forever for some reason.

The Long Good Friday is one of my favourite films, mainly because Hoskins was so convincing as Harold Shand.

One of many great roles he played.

Never shied away from playing genuinely unsympathetic characters. Uncomfortable subject matters too, like Mona Lisa.

But Who framed Roger Rabbit is a big old belly-laugh of a film, too.
