But please no signings with big egos and no heart like Aston and that other waste of time like was forgotten his name came from Warrington I believe promised loads gave nowt and had massive reputation

I think you might mean Andrew Currier mate, but we got him from Widnes, he left us for Wire. Unless you mean Ben Helliwell but that's a real quick judgement.

He was bloody unlucky with that cruciate injury tho kirkie. it was a nasty one and was never going to be the same player after that. That and being burdened with filling newy's boots.......

Never in a million years was he going to succeed

Then robin would u agree if he was carrying any s kind of injury then the foresight of the then coaching staff has to be questioned as for that other signing Mr Aston well at the time I was very excited it was to be short lived in not just playing terms

He got the cruciate ligament damage in his very first game for Rovers, a friendly against Dewsbury, in front of well over 3000 excited Rovers fans who had turned up to see him. Steve Martin couldn't have foreseen that happening. Rank bad luck for both the player and the club.

I think we all know and agree about the Mark Aston era Kirkie, just didn't work out as anyone expected including the player. However that's a long time gone and like everyone else I can't wait to s ee what's coming up next at this fantastic club. I never thought I'd see the day, it's absolutely amazing. Well done to all.

Yes am looking forward in many ways I will be purchasing my first season ticket in a long time yes that time I's a long time gone but one I can never forget on personal grounds things happened which stopped me from going to fev for a very long time many reasons why I never forget that era

the season may be nearly over for the team, but off the field the work goes on apace. every time we have a fans forum they just keep hitting us with more and more brilliant news. these are exciting times for featherstone rovers make no mistake

as for signings, the best one we've made for years is Daryl Powell. he's a top top coach, but he's not full of himself like some i could mention. we have never had a coach who has been so aproachable and so open with the fans. it's hard to believe, all those years ago, when he was sprinting 70 metres up the slope at post office road in his sheffield eagles shirt, to score under the sticks, i hated the guy :D

Mark Aston......

In 1992 my time as an accountant with British Coal was coming to an end. There was no compulsory redundancies in March 1992, but the power station at Grimey had closed so I was on gardening leave.

I spent my time productively assisting with the coaching of RL in the schools of Rovrum with Tim Butcher and 2 or 3 Sheffield players.

It was a long time ago and people change - they were young lads then. Lets put it this way. The committed, most hard working and professional was a lad called Daryl Powell!

There was one who really was as daft as a brush - Dale Laughton.

and then there was the lardmeister......... and yes I understand irony!

Andy Currier was damned unlucky, but even if he hadn't sustained that rank bad injury I just feel he'd have been cursed with the "Brett Daunt syndrome"! Someone who was a really good player but was following in the shoes of a legend - he would always have been "not Paul Newlove"!

His bad luck meant he never had the opportunity to prove himself at Fev

I knew you used to be an accountant Robin, but never realised it was at British Coal. You might have worked with my Dad....

Where did he work gaz?

All over the shop, from about 1980 to 94/5ish. He was at Kellingley for a while, and was at Area HQ at Allerton Bywater for a fair while. Big Welsh bloke, Nev Hughes.
