your top ten

As a chap born in 1989, i feel deprived of so much talent, not just as a Swinton fan, but as a Rugby League fan in general.

My top ten would read something like this, in no specific order.

Wayne English

Mark Welsby

Les Holiday

Sticks Ashcroft

Gavin Price Jones

Talite liavaa

Phil Wood

Ian Watson

Phil Cushion

Lee Marsh.

As someone born the week after we last won the championship, I would agree with most of the above.

Ken Gowers, Alan Buckley, Daz Davies and Dave Robinson were favourites from that era.

Bob Fleay from the 70s

Paul Mellor, Alan Fairhurst and Alan Taylor from the early 80s.

Always thought Welsby was a class act as well

Les Holliday who was a world class ball playing forward who was as good as anyone in the game when fit.

Finally, Danny who when motivated did things on a rugby field that I doubt we will see again. His try against Halifax as a trialist still sticks in the memory.

There are loads more.

Danny Wilson (If only for screwing Salford at the Willows in the JPS Trophy on his own, & 5 Drop Goals in a match, although he was brilliant any time)

Alva Drummond

Les Holliday

Paul Mellor

John Allen (Who scored a try on the wing at Headingley v HKR even though he was a 2nd rower)

Wayne English (Who lit up my occasional trips north)

Dave Potts (Who taught me how to be a winger at Irlam)

Green Vigo

Joe Grima

"Growling" Kel Earl

&

David Watkins (in his one & only season)

It was John Clough the second rower on the wing against Hull KR I dont think we`d even signed John Allen then
