Inaugural Ryan Brierley Cup A Big Success

Recommended Posts

On Thursday, five primary schools competed in a Tag Rugby League tournament, with the winner lifting the Ryan Brierley Cup. The event was a huge success with St James’ Daisy Hill winning the cup on Golden Point. The children loved the day out and it was a huge step in our quest to improve our reputation as a club in the community.

Ryan Brierley said, “The tournament was really entertaining and the commitment from the children who braved extreme weather conditions was outstanding. The standard of rugby was quality and was reflected by the match winning try in the final. Congratulations to St James’ Daisy Hill who ran out winners on the day. Speaking to the head teachers, they really enjoyed the tournament so hopefully we will see all the schools again next year.”

Apprentice co-ordinator John Duffy said, “I would like thank all the schools involved for a fantastic afternoon of Rugby League. Pupils and staff went away with a great experience hopefully this will create a fantastic link between the schools and our new apprenticeship scheme, so that they can enjoy rugby league throughout the school terms. Lastly I would also thank the LSV Co for letting our future stars grace the hallowed turf.”

The following schools took part:

• St James’ Daisy Hill

• 12 Apostles

• Leigh St Peters

• Sacred Heart

• Lowton St Marys
