South Wales Scorpions have signed full Wales international Ollie Olds for the 2013 season.

Hailing from Bridgend, the half-back started his Rugby League career with Brynteg Comprehensive School and at the age of 12 in 2005, scored a try at the Millennium Stadium to help his school to a national Year 7 Champion Schools final win against Castleford High. He created another try, for Jay Robbins, in their 40-4 win.

After that, he went through the old Celtic Crusaders Academy before spending a year with Leeds Rhinos and playing in their under 20s and Carnegie Nines side. He also had a spell with Championship side York City Knights last season.

After winning caps for Wales at under 16 and under 18 level, he made his first senior appearance against France in Wrexham this June.

Olds, a victim of the axing of the Super League under 20s Academy competition, is delighted to be returning to his native South Wales to continue his Rugby League career.

This is to add to the two young signings from Australia.

Saw this Ollie play a few times for Leeds academy looked really good and I hope he doesn't become lost to or disillusion by the game. What about Pring wasn't he originally from Wales played in the centre for Leeds?

It's a shame that Leeds released Olds, although they have signed another promising Welsh player in Jacob Morgan.

Anyone got an update on Jack Pring? Rumoured to have left RL.

Thought he'd gone to South Wales too.

Re Pring I hope he is still in the game somewhere like south Wales as he too looked a good prospect given a couple more years.

From what I recall the club saying, there were offers on the table, but none that they felt were quite right for them. Hopefully that doesn't backfire on us!
