For the Avignon match v Kiwis now reached 5000 with 200 days before the kick off. Unchartered territory here.

Only a handful of VIP packs left too.

That's ace. Still baffled as to why France didn't get three home games

I'm baffled as to why they got 2 as they're not the hosts!

Neither are Ireland but they have a game in Ireland.

As regards to the French, they have a good record of large attendances at their home matches and i would think this will continue to be the case for these two games. Playing them at Leigh or even Headingley would not have drawn anywhere neart the crowds as they will draw in France. We will see what their other group game that is played in England attracts. I rather suspect it will be half the crowd the games in France attract.

It may not be strictly correct as they are not a host country but I think it will be a win win for the game both for the World Cup as whole in terms of spectators and for the game in France in particular.

Agreed: France / Ireland / Wales are never going to host a world cup in its entirety so having odd games there makes complete sense.

France certainly could.

France certainly could.

Let's hope they do. The two World Cups hosted by France led to Great Britain winnning the cup. Third time could be a charm.

Oh, yes - nearly forgot, those Cardiff hoteliers are scalping swines. I wont be telling 'er indoors how much my room at the Ibis came in at ;-)

You'd be in more trouble if she knew you'd bought two tickets.  :D

well I've bought two today for Cardiff on the strength of finally knowing the kick off time, got the best placed Cat2 tickets and we're off towards the end so I guess most of those have sold out already in the East Stand. I guess, without press releases, we'll only get an idea how things are going once they start opening up currently unavailable sections at the various grounds.

The online thing is still allowing me to select bottom tier seats, and a big chunk have been greyed out since the beginning. Mind you top tier gives the best view by a mile

Great Britain will not be participating in any future World Cups.

Still tickets available in both bottom tiers on the website. Also one side not opened at Cardiff yet.

Are they going to open Club Wembley for the semis or is it members only like the cup final?

Clearly BS, you can still buy up to 12 tickets together behind the sticks at Wembley.

Yep - we have heard this rumour a couple of times now, particularly the one about the lower tier at Wembley.

Two things - the organisers would be shouting from the rooftops if 33k tickets had been sold for Wembley.

Secondly - They haven't even opened the upper tier, so it is clearly not true!

Well, yeah, but they were a northern hemisphere team and they won the cup twice in France

Looks like you can buy tickets in the lower West Stand for the Opening Ceremony. The blocks are still coloured grey on the map but you can click and purchase.

I've yet to see a single advert for the world cup at a national level.  I don't know what the world cup team hope to achieve without promoting this comp nationally: on TV, in print and online.

Few events advertise on TV to be fair. It is a very expensive for of advertising and not always that succesful. Same goes for Press ads. They may be having far more success using the channels they are - they are certainly getting plenty of free PR.

I wouldn't be suprprised if they did use TV or Press in the lead up, but certainly not at this stage.

You'd certainly expect the broadcasters providing the WC coverage to ramp up the advertising as the opening kick-off rolls draws closer.

At present the only time you read about the WC is through the common RL media channels, so it's only targeting those who'd normally be attending. Granted it sounds like it has been quite successful so far, but if they want to get new fans interested then they need to start getting more attention.

Also, is there a conflict of interest for TV companies to advertise this far in advance, as it would mostly get people buying tickets rather than watching on TV?

Is the amount of on-air advertising time something that gets negotiated into the viewing rights between the tournament host and the media?
