Bloody hell! What a senseless waste of a life!

And it was celebrated as a prank!

If the Sun had mounted this exercise it would have been condemned by all as an outrage, as criminal deception and fraud, final proof of Murdoch's degeneracy

If the Guardian had done it , it would have been paraded as a triumph of investigative journalism.

But an Australian radio station does it and its a prank. If the events are linked, then they will have to live with this forever.

You've talked some carp on here in the past John, but to use this tragic loss of a life to score a very petty and weak political point against your personal bete noire is pretty low.

You should have just gone with this line.

Shots don't come much cheaper than this.

If you don't like it, report me or put me on ignore. I will NOT be lectured by you or anyone else on this matter.

Everyone who laughed at the "prank" shares some of the blame for this poor nurses death.

I kept quiet about it on the day that it happened expecting that at least someone on here had the moral fibre to condemn what happened. I was wrong, though, but not surprised. And now somehow, we are not allowed to comment? Shame on you.

Calm down, dear.

You didn't keep quiet about it on the day - you contributed 100% of the posts that mentioned it. I didn't condemn, praise or laugh at it because I didn't (and still haven't) hear it.

And, comment all you want - but, rather like how I get shot down every now and then I expect to be able to shoot at others too.

You are the only person who mentioned it for goodness sake.

Terrible news. I said to my girlfriend yesterday that it wasn't the fault of the staff at the hospital that they had been fooled since they appeared to have an accent and English might not have been their first language. Thoughts go out to her friends and family.

You're trying to bring facts into it, guys. Give up.

His obsession has just pushed him a little further down the road of unhinged, tasteless and petty point-scoring, even at the expense of the tragic death of a non-political figure.

from Slate

It's worth pointing out, however, that this isn't the first time that 2Day FM has run into trouble with a prank. The station was slapped with a five-year license probation back in 2009 for violating Australian regulations after a gag involving a lie detector went horribly wrong, ending with a 14-year-old girl admitting on air that she was raped.

Locking this before anyone says anything (else) they might regret later.

Someone's died. A period of silence is probably appropriate.
