I'd like to see Kevin Sinfield play more at hooker, especially for England.

Got t play him at 13 widdop 6 and it's open for anyone to play 7 IMO

Agreed, pace and guile needed at stand off with Widdop the best option IMO.

I wouldn't have him anywhere near international selection.

Sure, he's a terrific captain at Leeds and gets the best out of his team mates but as an individual player, esp. hooker, there's plenty ahead of him I reckon. And he won't get his England team mates busting a gut for him like his Leeds' team mates do, again, I reckon.

I'd agree whole-heartedly.

No one is saying Kevin Sinfield isn't a gifted 6/13- his record, and especially that being a skipper speaks for itself.

However at International level at 6 he isn't quick enough, or creative enough. And similarly at 13 he doesn't pose enough of a physical threat.

The conundrum though is that his organisational skills and kicking game is that good he HAS to be in the team. This is further complicated by having Gareth Widdop developing rapidly and showing he cuts it as 6 in the NRL. Some might say his job is made easier by having Cooper Cronk and Cam Smith inside him and Billy Slater behind him, but I think that is insulting to the lad and the talent he has. Craig Bellamy woould not pick him if he wasn't worth his jersey.

So Mcnamara's task is to pick a side- and by that I mean a 17- which will play in a certain way, with specific tactics that will give England the best chance of ending the domination of Aus/ NZ in major comps.

It may need something out of the box- try this.

Spine of the side Starting posn's

1-Tomkins

6- Widdop

7- Myler/ Lomax/ Burrow/ A N Other

9- Sinfield

13-Burgess

After 20mins- bring a fresh Prop and Roby on, and move Burgess up to Prop.

1- Ditto Above

6-Ditto Above

7- Ditto Above

9- Roby

13- Sinfield

Sinfield and Roby can then switch positions as required to suit the set moves/ sets of six that McNamara wants to use.

Sinfield is a class player who would take this in his stride and I believe would revel in the additional responsibility and challenge it would present.

It might not be something like the above but we've got to outwit the Aussies and Kiwis and somewhere in the mix Kevin Sinfield is part of that.

He and the other players I listed also have the benefit of a pack that is man enough to match if not better the Aussies and Kiwis- there is also strength in depth in that area.

It will tale something novel and new like this to fox the Super Powers- people have said for a long time we should play our game and not impersonate the NRL sides. I'd agree- lets try something a bit different and be adventurous as we have the players to do it who I believe are ready to deliver.

I trust that you are referring in total to the kicking skills of KS in connection with those aimed from place at the goalposts? For I cannot recall one international game that KS has been involved in when he has throttled any opposition with some deftly accurate and penetrative field-kicking, from distance or, close to the line.

I admit to being a thorn in the side of those KS devotees but I cannot for the world believe that after so many attempts with KS being our, play-maker, schemer-in-chief, or whatever other handle you care to put on him, that he has yet to stride from a series as part of a winning series side.

Before anyone comes at me for blaming Kevin for our losses alone, I am certainly not doing so, but I am sick to the bloody teeth of reading, hearing, how well he will general the team and bring about the demise of the Aussies and Kiwi's, when in fact he has proven too regularly to be incapable of achieveing these heights and, so often.

That is not meant again to disparage him alone as there are 16 others who have to contribute also, but KS has been awarded these accolades and reponsibilities so often and has, as yet, NEVER done the deed and will not in all probability do so again.

As one other contributor states 'I would not have him near to being in the side' and nor would I.

For sadly KS good as he is at Leeds is not that great on the rep field, something that is all to evident to many but yet again is being heralded as the player most likely to do.............!!

whats with all this position stuff . these days the only fixed positions are fullback, wing and prop . all the others have at least a eliment of interchageablity about them

hookers can play loose forward or scrum half with ease

most back row forwards can interchange between 2nd row and loose with a number also been very capable in the centre as well and of course some not to bad at standoff.

standoff and scumhalf not much difference these days

centres seem able to play well on the wing and some are quite good in the forwards .

mind even fullbacks seem to pop up in the halfs and wingers drive the ball up like forwards and props play in the back row .

so if there good enough and you can achive a balance theres no need to rely on many specialist players for a team .

for example at leeds last season hardaker started at centre and ended up at full back

sinfield of course no13 played at standoff

mcguire no6 scrumhalf

burrow no7 hooker

ablett no12 centre at which he was chosen for england

bailey prop played his best games by far at loose forward
