Just going off memory so could well be wrong, but would go Sorenson, then O Reilly then Tew???

Thankfully as time goes by tend to forget those last two.

Thanks for your comprehensive list Keith T. Did Dave Cox actually arrive at Town to take up the post?

I don't think so but he was officially a Town coach. If he did arrive it was only a matter of a couple of days.

Ashton n Walsh stand out to me in my time ... Can someone remind me of Dean Williams between them and his story ??

Dean was a kiwi second row forward who played for us for a couple of years. Took over as interim player-coach after Ashton was sacked.

Similar to what Derwent recalls, all I know is that Dean was a really tough forward who I think initially arrived at Town as a player in 1990 and played 14 games under Ray Ashton. In December 1991 he took on the coaching task in a caretaker player coach capacity when Town were struggling ( playing 19 games) but failed to prevent the drop from the then Second Division to the Third Division. Peter Walsh arrived to start the re-build in the following close season.

March 31st 1996 - Round 1 of the first Super League competition saw Town beaten at home by St Helens in front of a crowd of 3,461 (0 – 62). The coach for that game and for the entire season was Ross O’Reilly. St Helens try scorers were: D. Arnold (4), P. Newlove (3), K. Hammond , A. Perelini, S. Prescott and P.Veivers. Bobby Goulding kicked 9 goals. The ref was Steve Presley.

Thetimberman is right about Phil McKenzie being a coach of Town. He and Bill McGinty were very briefly joint caretaker coaches after Peter Walsh left the club in July 1995. When Sorensen arrived in time for the Sheffield Eagles game (August 28th 1995), he left the selection of the team to McGinty and McKenzie who had been in charge for the pre-season work.

Dave Cox did arrive, I remember him clearly. I think he was only here for a short while as he left for home due to a family illness. It's bizarre what you can remember when prompted
