Blue Monkey

Pinks this Sunday at Barton?

Does anybody know if the friendly match against our dear neighbours, Eccles Town Reds, is actually still on? It gets a mention on their website but there's nowt at all on ours.

If it is on, then why is it not announced on our website?

Puzzling, don't you think?

I think it's definitely on as Alan Marshall has purchased tickets from the City Of Salford Stadium and was told the game would definitely go ahead. As far as I'm aware our offices are still closed following the festivities.

Tickets cannot be bought from our club. its all done through the stadium management company type thing. i am just hoping you can pay on the door as there is no way im parting with any cash before hand.

Barnie since the stadium management company operate ticket distribution and not Salford you will get a full refund if the game doesn't go ahead. It's very much how LSV operate, they collect the cash, deduct expenses and then pay the balance to the club.

It seems that only the West Stand will be open on Sunday.I believe the stand holds a maximum of 3000 so if those wanting to attend exceeds expectations there is a possibility that people could be turned away. They cannot open other areas up as there will not be enough stewards to facilitate this. With the significance of the game it is not beyond the realms of possibility that there could be a bumper gate so best to get tickets in advance.

That's shocking that. They should open at least two stands. I was really looking forward to us all sat/stood together making a lot of noise, but now it doesn't seem that will be the case.

You're doing a good job deputising for the club Alan while they're sunning themselves in the Bahamas or wherever.

All a bit embarrasing for the Forever Reds people and those on Scarlet Turkey who are banging the drum for 8,000 to turn up and give a show of support......

It is clear from the stadium website that not only are they limiting the capacity to West Stand only, but they aren't even opening the whole of that stand.

Only the middle 4 blocks are being made available, which is circa 1,500 maximum seats outside the hospitality areas.

Perhaps the Salford City Stadium should be renamed the White Elephant Stadium.

I hfonestly can't believe what they are doing with the ground. Its derby day and they opening 4 blocks, could not organise a ###### up in a brewery. My shift patterns wont allow me to get to the ground till matchday and now there is the chance I wont get in. I am furious

I can see they're opening W03, W04 and W05.

Are us Lions fans being allocated or choosing a particular block?

Oh - was it as bad as the score suggests ?

Pretty much. Salford hardly got out of second gear throughout and had they been in a ruthless mood it could've been a lot more on the "against" column. Broughton was head and shoulders the best player on the pitch - the word is that he'll be on his way to Warrington shortly.

Disappointing gate in the circumstances of below 2,000, hardly the numbers to convince a potential new investor in Salford Reds that Super League is viable at Barton. Some nice ladies were selling cup cakes outside the ground to raise funds, which I'm sure will make a big dent in the circa £1.5m per annum black hole in the finances and almost £2m in existing debts.

The traffic to get away was horrendous, it must be a total nightmare with anything above 5,000 on.

The ground is poorly designed atmosphere-wise with the West Stand having a roof higher than a cathedral and the other 3 sides just having low rise sheds - any crowd noise just evapourates. Comes back to the ridiculous notion that they will expand the capacity to 20,000 at some stage I guess. It would've been far better to have a lower-scale West Stand and less of a drop off to the other areas.

Have to say I'm pleased the Lions aren't playing home matches there. LSV is far superior.

A couple of the Lions forwards showed some promise, Ainscough put in some nice touches, but there was no penetration. The two Lions tries that came, plus a third that was disallowed a shade harshly, were directly on the back of Salford handling errors.

Totally agree with your views Phill on how the stadium is poorly designed with one huge great stand (west) and three other stands little more than flimsy low lying sheds. As you said, it would have been far better to have the east stand larger and the main (west) stand less imposing. The ground may acquire some degree of atmosphere given time but at the moment is largely bland and soulless.

But for the lack of an athletics track, its currently almost as bad for (lack of) atmosphere as the South Leeds Stadium.

The planners have got a LOT to answer for.

Halliwell Jones, LSV, Langtree Park are all far better templates to follow.

I like an athletics track around some stadiums

If the match is boring I often imagine myself winning the 400m against Michael Johnson.

I thought Salfords ground was fine...I enjoyed my visit...the staff made a great effort to ensure my dad had disabled access.

Then again I liked the willows and I like lsv too

Im quite easy to please. .I like smiling and being positive and being happy.

Life is good if you let it be.
