I know there are loads of jokes, and I've taken part too.

I felt comforted as I listened to him, reminded me of how I felt in church when I lost my mum and went as I felt lost. Don't how or why but I really like Pope Francis I, he comes across really well, bless him. Lots of things I don't agree with in the catholic church, but the personal feelings I had as he spoke made me think of mum and that was nice.

I bet they're going crazy in Argentina and the rest of South America. Can't believe he's their first representative

Yes amh. People underestimate the power of the pope in this country. In catholic developing countries he is basically the number one influence and people hang on.his every word. I amongst filipinos and they basically did what ever he said and looked to him for direction in life. He will have immense influence over south America.

Judging by the red Vees in his coat of arms that possibility can not be ruled out

I've looked for news from there, I'm imagining immense crowds and celebrations. A bit emotional for me at the moment. I was thinking of mum last week and this sort of felt like a message from her...sounds soft I know

He really should have been Pope Malvinas. That would have been proper cool.

I hope he brings comfort and hope to those who need it. I hope he STFU about anything not directly related to his specific religion.

I fancied a go at being Pope but it wasn't advertised in the Job Centre - I reckon I'd be pretty good at it - I can be as dogmatic as the next man if I'm pushed

So many of the people who criticised Paley for his attitude to Muslims are on this thread having a pop at Catholics. At least Paley knew something about Islam.

The Catholic church is hardly a difficult target, or have you not been following the news?

May I ask which word?

Good luck to the new pope. It's not my thing but it's one role that could be a real force for good in the right hands.

All very true unfortunately.

If you have to ask you're not a Catholic.

I've been thinking about the new Pope - and all the scandals confronting him. Given that he's an Argentine and a man of God I reckon his no. 1 priority should be to investigate the Maradonna "hand of God" scandal - nothing could be of more urgency IMO!

I couldn't have put it better myself.
