Knights v Halifax

72 posts in this topic

So its another tough test for the Knights this week, at home to Halifax. Send us your thoughts on the game and you could feature in the matchday magazine!

Who should play?

How should we play?

What do you think will happen?

Any good York v Halifax memories?

Chris Thorman kicking a last minute penalty to deny them a bonus point in 2011

Playing them in 1990 in front of about 5000 and Graham Sullivan emerging from the shadows to deny Eddie Riddlesden a certain try

Alan Hadcroft not touching the ball down in the 2004 final

Tawera Nikau's debut at Thrum Hall

That Arriva Trains Cup quarter final in 2003 and Chris Langley carrying about 4 blokes with him over the line

A York supporter (Paul Boyne?) side stepping the Halifax steward on the pitch after the whistle in the same match, then being told to "Stop being a ###### idiot" by Jacko.

Will just settle for 100% from the lads again as we got yesterday with just 13 fit players for

most of the game & us getting that bit of luck & a few calls from the ref in our favour.

Suppose who should play depends on the worrying injury list, if assume no Nicholson then Stenchion

hopefully ready, if no Danny Nick, might go with Tom Carr at half back & Haynsey at 1 if fit, also Brining

needs to be back in to stiffen up the tackling.

It was 2004 and York took twice as many fans to that game at Halifax as they've been getting recently at home. Great atmosphere. Where have those fans gone?

I'm sure that after all these years there are many of us who could write a dissertation about the rise and fall of the York R.L. fanbase, and the old chestnuts of a winning team and a ground that is on peoples doorstep still apply. But in my book these reasons, although valid, are far too simplistic and many other variables are at play. One of these,IMO, is CREDIBILITY of the club within the city, and the way the club is perceived by the great sporting public of York. Often we appear to be experts at shooting ourselves in the foot. Over to you Gav!!

Back to topic:

Wilf "thunder thighs" George scattering players down the wing like an early volcano.

Dave Watson leaving us and turning out for Fax instead, sad day.

As noted above, Graham Sullivans amazing last ditch tackle on Eddie Riddlesdon, whenever we bump into Graham we remind him of that classic moment and he beams at the memory. Happy days!

Totally agree, but the main thing that gives the club credibility is by winning games, if we are winning, there's a buzz about the club, everyone is smiling and talking about the game etc. If we are losing (which has been far, far too often in the past 8 years) it's all doom and gloom and the ground is in the wrong place and the coach/chairman/general manager/kitman/announcer (delete as applicable) hasn't got a clue and should resign. It's dead easy to get a mate or 2 to come to a game if we've won a few, but incredibly difficult to persuade anyone when we've won about 4 games in 2 years, it's even difficult to persuade the Mrs that me going to a game at all is a good idea.

You can't spell Laughton without Laugh! I say we surprise him. He'll be expecting boos and jeers, let's give him a cheer and applause when he comes out. If we give him sh+t he'll only wreck the game.

Definately wasent Boyney,I know the lad who ran on the pitch after the game very well.He targeted a steward who could only walk with the aid of a walking stick. When he congratulated Jacko,he said "get off the pitch young un" despite him been about 20 years older than him!

Add 4 more,

2004 final - me live on sky dancing in the stand after 65mins then same bl@@dy camera man capturing me with head in hands at the final hooter, a grown man crying !

2004 - Cainy's try in that fateful play off final loss when he crashed over for a brilliant rousing try, talk about body on the line.

Challenge cup away at their place, Paul Davidson their prop getting a slating every time he came near the knights fans then losing it and giving us all the finger behind his back, proper teddy out of pram moment, priceless.

2010/11-getting stuffed 72-16 at their place, Dennis Tuffour constantly coming in off his wing leaving us wide open and me losing the plot and bellowing at him every 2mins to remind him where his touch line was and 'begging him' to stay on it. Another Monday without any voice, makes for interesting meetings at work.

Great days

Sounds like no Nicklas, Nicholson, also Lee & Lyons only 50/50 chance.

Fordy maybe back, Latus should be ok & Hull lads should be Briscoe, Arundel,

Shaul, Bowden & Hadley.

funny how everyone remembers it as Tuffour leaving us wide open on the wing and not his centre leaving him stranded with half a pitch width to cover.

Was the centre Esders or Garside? Can't recall.

Score was 76 v 38 though. Me dad was wandering around in shock saying "How the hell you score 38 points and still get beat I'll never know"

Andy

I know what you mean about his centre but it was funny at the time, centre was I think.

Certainly not a day for defences

Looking at the club website sounds like we are struggling for personel on Sunday, all

we can ask is that we get the same 'bodies on the line' commitment as we did against

Swinton & just tackle them to death.

One thing for certain, the lads will really need some loud & commited support this week.

The physio room was pretty busy last night at training but would be nice to see Haynsie get a run, apparently Jake Joynt went very well in the 20's on Wednesday and, hopefully, Stenno's back. George Elliott is another busting for some game time - opportunity for them all to show what they've got.
