Sorry Gaz but that's cobblers. Bussey is a good player - with a lot more to come IMO. People can't say that that the ref didn't influence the game. It's not necessarily the decisions he makes, it's the ones he doesn't give that make all the difference. Sheffield were allowed to stand offside on a regular basis but I don't believe they were penalised once; we on the other hand were. As long as a team is allowed to be offside they inhibit the other team's ability to attack. Yes we made one or two bad mistakes bur we pretty well matched them and, often were the better team. You can't legislate for a player slipping or a ref who ignores what's going on. But for this we'd have won.

Agree with that, we dominated for long periods but the bounce of the ball went Sheffield's way for the most part. Hewer gave one penalty at the ptb all night which couldn't be right. Ian Smith also made a terrible blunder with his decision to penalise Kainy for pushing which led to a try, he was trying to get to the ball which he's entitled to do. Didn't get the rub of the green tonight but could and should have still won it near the end had Greg backed himself two yards from the line instead of trying to pass inside with a defender in the way. Thought the pack was awesome throughout.

Makes me feel a bit better about our 13-6 defeat earlier in the season.

We were robbed blind in my opinion , they made many yards from inconsistant penalties than they were ever going to make past our great defensive effort pinning them in their own danger area.

Dave bussey isn't good enough yet and probably never will be good enough to play stand off for Fev. IMO he is one of the most over rated players I've seen in a Fev shirt. Hope he proves me wrong but IMO he's not good enough to get in our starting 17 at the moment.

And yet his game v dews was yhe diff between having one or two in the losses column this season.

Bussy is a back rower... not a 6!

I reckon Bussy has played well when I've seen him, though I can't comment on how he played last night as I haven't seen the game.

It does seem a little strange however to play him at 6 when we had a specialist 6 on the bench. Also seems strange that when he signed his last contract less than 12 months ago, Daryl said he saw him as a 13, yet I don't recall seeing him play there once.

As for last night's game, sounds like it was a good battle between two closely match teams, as most games between the two sides have been of late. Tubby seems to have our game planned sussed at the moment, so perhaps it's time for us to try something a little different in our tactical approach?

I'm not not knocking the lad robin as he's young and inexperienced I just think DP got the squad selection and tactics wrong last night like you say bussey isn't a 6 and I don't think he ever will be. We had probably our best playmaker sat on the bench while bussey played 6. I understand we have to try new things etc but surely not in a big game like last night was. I just think we have better players than the level bussey is at at the minute. I also feel we are playing too many players out of position and out of their comfort zones at the minute. Hopefully DP will prove me wrong when it really matters but I just feel when it becomes a tactical game he gets out thought especially against mr Aston who as had his number for quite a long time now.

Mate, your post really confuse me. In one post you say that your not knocking Bussey, yet in another you say that he's the most overrated player to wear a Fev shirt, I'd hate to see it when you are knocking him. Then in another post you say it didn't help when Bussey went off injured. Isn't that when Kain went to stand off? The problems were obvious last night. Discipline. The Rovers pack tackled magnificently for 4-5 tackles then piggybacked Sheffield up field with penalties. Early on was fine example when Brambani kicked from deep in his own half on the last, only to be taken out late and then receiving the penalty where the ball alighted, deep in our half.

Lack of completion. It took us 18 minutes in the second half to mount platform for our first attack only fir Bryan to lose the ball on the first. We were caught on the 6th tackle 4 times last night resulting in hand overs. Brambani and Walker's kicking game and link play was far smarter. Than our halves last night. When we did put decent kicks in to Toggagae their full back, we allowed him to run free yards in return and on one occasion tackled him in mid air which is a basic error in this day and age.

Rovers have had a fantastic away run in the league but like everything good it has to come to an end. On a bitterly cold night last night we were second best. But onwards and upwards, it's not the first time Tubby's got one over us and it probably won't be the last.

Andrew I just feel bussey as been dropped in at the deep end and IMO he's not good enough to play stand off. I also doubt whether he is good enough for our first team squad. That's not having a go at the lad as we have some cracking players at the club and it would be hard for any youngster to break into the team. I personally feel he's not quite ready for a first team position.

To be fair gaz, what you've just posted is a bit different to this...

why bussey as to play week in week out I will never know he as to be one of the most over rated players I've seen in a Fev shirt.

I think you're bang to rights gaz.

You post a bloody daft comment then when youre challenged you go quicker than tommy hodson in the opposite direction. You've done this shhh it loads of times. I guess you and your 16 mates didn't take up the wakey season ticket offer so we're saddled with your musings for at least another season?

I do feel he is over rated mark but that isn't having a go at the lad. He's been put into the first team to make an impact and barring the dews game he hasn't made an impression on me yet. I personally don't rate him especially as a stand off. My head is spinning why our best playmaker sat most of the game on the bench.

I've watched us for over twenty years robin and barring the newlove era this is the best I've seen us. But something isn't clicking for me when we entertain the big boys especially the eagles. I don't know what it is but I see another trophy less season for us yet again.

But he keeps us entertained. ;):D

There's plenty of post first, think later forum users about, same as in the real world where there are plenty of people you come across whose mouth is usually a step or two in from of their brain. Doesn't always mean any harm. ;)

Spot on gaz I will admit I do over react when we lose maybe I'm a sore loser after us winning nearly every game

After returning from the game and watching it again on my recording I have come to the conclusion that the game was played by two good sides who both made some mistakes and although Rovers gifted Sheffield with two tries we got ourselves into a winning position late in the game. This unfortunately was taken away from us by the man out there who probably was the worst perforfmer but had the most influence on the outcome of the result. So my vote for Man of the match goes to "Gareth Hewer"

If he is regarded as one of the better ones then dear oh dear.

This will be a hard game probably the hardest we will face all season. Aston seems to have DPs number at the minute as the eagles were the only team we didn't beat last season. I think the eagles will edge this one mainly because we are a few players light through injuries. So I'm going

Eagles 22 Fev 18

1st try hodson

Mom Kain

Att 750

Great prediction, only 4 points out.

I agree JT but that's the only game he as performed for me. I don't know he might turn out to be another Zak but at the minute he as yet to impress me. But that's just my opinion though.

I didn't want that to be the score line bill but Aston seems to have the edge over DP tactically and I just thought that's what would win the eagles the game. I got 1st try scorer right too

Think they made more yards moving off the mark after the tackle than they did actually running.

Hewers a joke, he never changes. Cummins has a lot to answer for.

Team selection, Has Andy Kain done something wrong. Last week I could understand with Benny Kaye missing. But to put him on the bench when Benny is starting and Ellis is on the bench why put Andy there as well.. It seems as if Daryll is determined to play Bussey anywhere as long as he is on the field. I have no objection to him being in the 17 but it seems as if we have to have him at the start. We have seen him as second row and now stand off when we have players who in my humble opinion are better equiped to play in these positions. I wait with bated breath to be shot down or as usual have this thread now ignored.

Agree,Bazzer. Has not broken any pots IMO.

Didnt we all hear such comments in the finals?. Our pack was tremendous throughout, but we appeared to lose our tactical heads in the support play.
